QE Solar
We are seeking an experienced test engineer or electrician to join the QE MV Services team. The successful candidate will be responsible for commissioning, testing, and troubleshooting of medium voltage reclosers and protection and control systems, including SEL relays and other communication devices. They will also be responsible for acceptance and maintenance testing of MV cable, overhead equipment, pad‑mounted transformers, and MV/LV switchgear. This role includes significant travel across the northeast with occasional national travel.
Essential Duties
Perform acceptance testing and commissioning of reclosers and protection and control systems in accordance with NETA/NICET standards
Perform functional testing, including protection and control schemes, on medium voltage systems including interconnection equipment specifically for PV/BESS systems
Perform acceptance and maintenance testing of a variety of equipment from low voltage switchboard to point of interconnection
Ensure that all equipment is installed and commissioned in accordance with manufacturer’s specifications and industry standards
Perform pre‑testing and witness testing of PV/BESS systems with AHJ
Troubleshoot and repair issues arising during commissioning
Prepare and review commissioning documentation, including test procedures and as‑built drawings
Provide technical support to other field personnel during installation and commissioning
Communicate effectively with project managers, clients, site owners and other stakeholders
Stay current on industry developments and new technologies in acceptance and maintenance testing
Education & Certification Required
Journeyman license or Associates/Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Power Engineering or equivalent electrical experience in a related field
Experience Required
Medium voltage experience related to protection and control schemes with a level of expertise in SEL relays
Experience interpreting wiring diagrams to prepare relay logic and protection schemes
Experience performing testing of transformers, reclosers, primary meters, and SEL relays
Strong problem‑solving and analytical skills
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Must be able to work independently and in a team environment
Must be able to work in a fast‑paced, deadline‑driven environment
Specialized or Technical Knowledge Licenses, Certifications Preferred
NICET Electrical Power Testing certifications
Thermography certifications (Level 1)
IT/networking skills: familiarity with RS485, Modbus, TCP/IP, etc.
OSHA 30 Certification
Completion of NFPA 70E courses
CPR/First Aid
Functional Knowledge
Knowledge of National Electrical Code and standard design/construction practices
Clear understanding of OSHA safe workplace practices and procedures
Ability to read and understand electrical single‑line and three‑line diagrams as well as other construction/DAS/design drawings or permitting documentation
Company/Industry Related Knowledge
Electric and related utilities and utility maintenance
Solar energy/BESS installation, maintenance, and optimization
Physical Requirements
Ability to lift up to 50 pounds regularly
Ability to move safely over uneven terrain
Ability to sit or drive for prolonged periods
Ability to safely climb ladders while carrying 50 pounds
Ability to work in extreme weather
