When assigned to Construction, typical duties include professional engineering duties related to highway, structural, materials or geotechnical inspection, administration or analysis. Assignments may include Engineer in Charge of a construction project, Area Construction Supervisor, Regional Technical Services Manager, or Assistant to the RCE. Reassignments within Construction may occur. When assigned to Design, typical duties include professional engineering duties related to highway or structural design, structural inspection, or structural analysis, including high complexity work. Assignments may be to Highway Design, Structures Design, or Bridge Safety Assurance Units. Reassignments within Design may occur to address delivery, safety assurance, or inspection needs. When assigned to Traffic Safety & Mobility, typical duties include professional engineering duties related to traffic engineering and mobility, safety program management, and transportation systems management and operations. Specific assignments may be to Safety Evaluation, Commercial Development/Permits, or Traffic Engineering/Design Review Units. Reassignments within Traffic may occur to address engineering or operational needs. When assigned to Transportation Maintenance, typical duties include professional engineering duties related to operation and maintenance of the State transportation system. Specific assignments may be as Region 3 Accident Damage Recovery and Claims Manager. Reassignments within Transportation Maintenance may occur to address operational needs. When assigned to Planning and Program Management, typical duties include professional engineering duties related to project management and development to ensure compliance with State and Federal regulations. Reassignments within Planning and Program Management may occur to address immediate engineering or operational needs. Responsibilities may include serving a role within the Incident Command System to support emergency responses regionally and statewide. Minimum Qualifications: This title is part of NY HELPS. Open Competitive requirements are described below. Promotional qualifications apply for certain candidates as listed. Minimum qualifications (summary): New York State Professional Engineer's license and current registration AND a qualifying bachelor's degree or higher as listed, OR New York State Professional Engineer's license and current registration AND one year of full-time qualifying engineering experience. Qualifying degrees include Civil Engineering, Civil Engineering Technology, Construction Engineering, Construction Engineering Technology, Construction Engineering Management, Construction Engineering Management Technology, Geological Engineering, Geotechnical Engineering, Hydraulics Engineering, Materials Engineering, Materials Science and Engineering, Metallurgical and Materials Engineering, Structural Engineering, Transportation Engineering, Transportation Planning and Engineering, or Engineering Science with a recognized concentration in any listed field. Qualifying experience: One year of full-time engineering experience with transportation projects related to highways/roadways, railroads, bridges, airports, waterways, building structures, or traffic management and safety systems. Permanent competitive appointment eligibility may apply via Civil Service processes. Notes: This title is a continuous recruitment examination for promotional candidates. The minimum qualifications for promotional appointment include a NYS PE license and current registration plus being a qualified employee with requisite service as described. Additional Information
Region 3, Senator Hughes State Office Building, 333 East Washington Street, Syracuse, NY 13202 This title is part of NY HELPS; for duration, it may be filled via non-competitive appointment (no exam required) but candidates must meet minimum qualifications. Later, non-competitive status may convert to competitive status with same rights as competitive class employees. Salary notes: starting salary $98,298 (base $91,298 plus geographic differential of $7,000). Maximum $122,252 (base $115,252 plus geographic differential of $7,000). Mid-Hudson Adjustment of $2,000 or Downstate Adjustment of $4,000 may apply depending on location. Applicants must be authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis.
