Overview
Professional Engineer 1 (Civil/Transportation) (NY HELPS) at New York State Thruway Authority. This role reports to the Department of Engineering’s Office of Design located in the Authority’s Administrative Headquarters. Responsibilities
Provide professional engineering design services for bridge or highway repair, rehabilitation, and reconstruction projects of varying complexity in support of the Capital Program. Prepare design reports/studies, plans, specifications, engineer’s estimates (PS&E), design calculations and other technical elements of a bridge or highway project. Apply knowledge of current New York State design standards, procedures and specifications including the Project Design Manual, Standard Specifications, Bridge Manual or Highway Design Manual, AASHTO LRFD/Green Book, Standard Sheets and/or Bridge Detail Sheets. Proficiency with MicroStation and InRoads is preferred. Review and approve design work performed by technicians; supervisory experience is preferred. Manage engineering design consultants, including preparing scopes of services, tracking progress, and evaluating the consultant. Provide construction support as projects progress through construction. Additional duties as assigned. Qualifications
New York State Professional Engineer's license and current registration AND a qualifying bachelor's degree or higher as listed below; OR a New York State Professional Engineer's license and current registration AND one year of full-time qualifying engineering experience as listed below. Qualifying degrees: Civil Engineering, Civil Engineering Technology, Construction Engineering, Construction Engineering Technology, Construction Engineering Management, Construction Engineering Management Technology, Geological Engineering, Geotechnical Engineering, Hydraulics Engineering, Materials Engineering, Materials Science and Engineering, Metallurgical and Materials Engineering, Structural Engineering, Transportation Engineering, Transportation Planning and Engineering, or Engineering Science with a recognized concentration in any of the above listed engineering degrees. Qualifying experience: One year of full-time engineering experience with transportation projects related to highways/roadways, railroads, bridges, airports, waterways, building structures, or traffic management and safety systems. This title is part of the New York Hiring for Emergency Limited Placement Statewide Program (NY HELPS). For the duration of the NY HELPS Program, this title may be filled via a non-competitive appointment; at a future date, non-competitive status may convert to competitive status. This is a Unit 2 (CSEA) position. The NYS Thruway Authority offers an extensive benefits package, including paid time off, sick leave incentive, retirement system membership, and 90% tuition assistance. Onsite parking is provided. Remote work availability and hours will be discussed at the time of interview. Salary range includes all applicable annual components of pay, including Recruitment & Retention Pay of $7,000.
