This role will be located at our Knoxville, Tennessee facility. Role Overview This Principal Additive Process Manufacturing Engineer role is a high-impact technical position responsible for advancing Laser Powder Bed Fusion (LPBF) technology within our organization. The successful candidate will serve as the company’s technical authority on LPBF, driving development of materials, processes, and production readiness for critical aerospace and defense applications. This role requires deep expertise in metallurgy, process engineering, and additive manufacturing, coupled with the ability to translate theory into practical, scalable solutions. What You\'ll Do
Serve as the LPBF technical expert across the company Develop and optimize material- and geometry-specific process parameters to enable robust, high-quality production Own and maintain all technical documentation, specifications, and standard work for the LPBF value stream Drive production readiness of LPBF systems, materials, and processes Spearhead production optimization to improve machine capability, process control, and part performance for aerospace-grade applications Apply advanced knowledge of powder metallurgy, laser-material interaction, melt pool dynamics, and thermal management to solve critical challenges in LPBF Guide cross-functional teams in integrating LPBF into the broader manufacturing value stream, including post-processing and inspection You have
Bachelor’s degree in engineering, Metallurgy, or Materials Engineering (or related field) 5+ years of hands-on experience with LPBF systems and process development Demonstrated expertise in powder characterization, process parameter development, and machine/materials interaction The ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. government issued security clearance is required. U.S. Citizenship is required, as only U.S. Citizens are eligible for a security clearance Nice to have
Master’s degree or PHD in Engineering, Metallurgy, or Materials Engineering (or related field) 8–10 years of production in LPBF or related AM modalities Strong background in laser optics, sensors, in-situ monitoring, and process control for AM 3–5 years of project management or technical leadership experience Working knowledge of other AM technologies (EBM, DED, Binder Jet) Familiarity with traditional manufacturing processes such as investment casting and machining for hybrid production strategies Benefits
