Certified Welding Inspector - 1st Shift
Join MICA Steelworks as a Certified Welding Inspector working the 1st shift. The role focuses on visual inspection of heavy structural steel assemblies to ensure compliance with AWS, AISC and shop drawings. Base Pay
$31.50 /hr – $33.00 /hr Responsibilities
Perform visual inspection of welded joints on poles and heavy structural assemblies. Ensure fabricated steel is welded as planned, meets customer specifications and sequence. Document inspection results and prepare customer‑required certification records. Read new project specifications, interpret drawings and moderate‑complexity standards. Assist Quality Control Manager in administering the AISC program, support AISC audits and keep the shop ready for the annual audit. Collaborate with QA/QC inspectors to organize daily and weekly inspection work. Identify and resolve quality non‑conformances in a timely, cost‑effective manner. Maintain clear communication with management and employees, establishing trust and respect. Qualifications
3 – 5 years experience welding heavy steel assemblies; preferably with inspection experience. In‑depth ability to read and understand shop drawings and weld symbols. Basic knowledge of AWS and AISC national codes. Knowledge of Lean Manufacturing or continuous‑improvement techniques desired. Strong attention to detail and the ability to work independently. Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills. Performance Measures
Quality, accuracy and thoroughness of work. Projects completed safely, on time and within budget. Closed‑out quality problems in a timely, cost‑effective manner. Internal and external customer satisfaction with project quality. Inspection records and notebooks kept up to date and organized. Timeliness and adherence to inspection deadlines and schedules. Educational Requirements
High school diploma or equivalent. Level II Certificate in U.T. or M.T. (documented training). Certified Welding Inspector using ASW D1.1 code. Working Conditions & Physical Demands
Manufacturing floor shop and general office. Occasional travel by automobile. Exposure to shop hazards, seasonal weather conditions. Must be able to lift/carry up to 25 lbs and pass a drug‑screening test. Continuing Education
Participation in mandatory education programs and ongoing job‑related skill enhancement. Benefits
