St. Clair County (IL)
Performs all types of civil engineering functions under the immediate supervision of the Assistant County Engineer.
Independently perform and/or manages various phases of engineering, projects such as surveys, soil structure, design, right-of-way procurement, construction, traffic control, maintenance, equipment utilization and record keeping.
Perform technical engineering work related to the planning, hydraulic design and structural design of various road and bridge projects.
Serves as Resident Engineer on construction projects and observes the grading, surfacing and drainage structures for satisfactory workmanship and adherence to plans and specifications. Assist in establishing line and grade for the project and prepares the payment estimate for the contractor’s completed work. Draft specifications for projects following established procedures.
Inspect existing County and Road District roads and structures and make engineering level recommendations as to their needed repair and/or reconstruction.
Complete IDOT, FHWA, IGD and related forms and spreadsheets. Prepare and monitor Grant Applications to various agencies.
Perform other duties as assigned or required by the Assistant County Engineer.
Requires a Baccalaureate Degree in Civil Engineering from an Illinois approved engineering curriculum as defined by 225 ILCS 325.
Proficiency in AutoCAD, Excel, Word and other software applications utilized by the County Highway Department.
General knowledge of IDOT Standards and Polices
Ability to traverse uneven ground
Effectively communicate with staff, officials and the public.
Self-motivation and attention to detail.
Valid driver’s license.
Comprehend and apply all of the various complexities of highway engineering to their work.
Position is subject to drug and alcohol tests and background check.
