The Counseling Center assists NC State students experiencing personal, academic or vocational problems. The goal of the Counseling Center is to provide students with professional counseling services and outreach to help them cope with issues that may impede successful academic performance.

The Counseling Center also offers crisis intervention and psychological/ psychiatric assessment as well as consultation with others who have concerns about the mental/emotional state of NC State students.

Essential Job Duties The Counselor will provide professional individual and group counseling services and outreach to NC State students as well as consultation to University administrators, staff and others who have concerns about the mental/emotional status of NC State students.

This is a 12-month embedded position that will balance provision of mental health services to the students of the College of Engineering and support of the main counseling center, when needed. Embedded counselors prioritize services to students to the College of Engineering by creating catered services and building close relationships with staff and faculty of the college.

Embedded clinician responsibilities include but are not limited to:

Individual and group counseling of NC State students/clients (personal, academic, and vocational assessment and counseling); psychological assessment; developmental and crisis counseling; couples counseling; evaluation of students for withdrawal from the University.

Development and participation in routine and requested Outreach programming.

Consultation with faculty staff, parents, and others.

Providing evaluations and recommendations regarding students with academic and conduct problems.

Some participation in after-hours on call and possible evening office hours.

General administrative responsibilities.

Other Responsibilities

This position may involve participation in supervision/training of graduate students and program evaluation.

Providing training to all staff, specific training provided to interns and trainees, providing case consultation and supervision, facilitating focus groups, collecting assessment data, and program evaluation.

Other duties as assigned.

This position is at will. Further, this position is currently funded with non-recurring funding and subject to continuation contingent on ongoing availability of funds.

Qualifications Minimum Education and Experience

Professional degree and licensure in the appropriate clinical field of psychology, social work, or mental health.

Other Required Qualifications

Established commitment to culturally informed and responsive practices.

Candidate must possess strong clinical skills and experience in handling crisis situations.

Strong interpersonal skills required.

Preferred Qualifications

Independently licensed practitioner in North Carolina.

Experience in a university counseling center

Successful candidates will be generalists who are multi-culturally affirming and possess competence and experience in working with varied populations.

Preference for candidates with experience utilizing a time-limited model of care.

Preference for candidates who have experience and strong interest in providing outreach presentations and group work.

Required License(s) or Certification(s)

Appropriate licensure must be obtained/maintained according to North Carolina laws.

Valid NC Driver's License required No

Commercial Driver's License required No
