Senior Mechanical Engineer – Sheet Metal Design
Location:
Columbia, SC, USA
About the Role: We are seeking a
Senior Mechanical Engineer
to join a global manufacturer specializing in data center products. This role focuses on
sheet metal and mechanical design
for critical electrical and data center systems. You will work across teams to take concepts from initial design through production, ensuring manufacturability, reliability, and compliance with industry standards.
Key Responsibilities:
Collaborate with stakeholders to define requirements for new or existing data center products.
Design sheet metal components and mechanical systems using
SolidWorks
or
AutoCAD Inventor .
Develop concepts and detailed designs that meet client needs and engineering standards.
Ensure designs are manufacturable, assembly-friendly, and maintain system reliability.
Create prototypes, test solutions, and analyze results to refine designs.
Manage project deliverables, timelines, and change control processes.
Support manufacturing teams to ensure designs are executed correctly and troubleshoot issues as they arise.
Occasional travel or support outside standard business hours may be required.
Qualifications & Experience:
Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering (ABET-accredited).
10+ years
of mechanical engineering experience, ideally in
sheet metal design
and product development for electrical or data center systems.
Proficient with
SolidWorks, AutoCAD Inventor, Vault , and MS Office.
Knowledge of UL standards (UL 891, UL 1558, UL 67, UL 857, UL 1008, UL 62368/60950) is a plus.
Experience producing designs that are manufacturable, assembly-friendly, and reliable.
