Plant Operator Maintainer Trainee
: Hourly Rate (depending on experience):
$19.32 Purpose:
to provide mechanical and operational support to plant personnel and/or managers in the operation of water treatment plants. Incumbents may be assigned to either the lime softening or membrane plant. Water Treatment Plant Operator I
: Hourly Rate Starting (depending on experience):
$20.95 Purpose:
to perform skilled work associated with water treatment plant operations and maintenance in order to maintain an adequate supply of potable drinking water meeting Federal and State regulations. The incumbent may function in a lead capacity, depending on level of license. Collects water samples for chemical analysis; evaluates clarity, quality and chemical characteristics of sampled water; ensures compliance with Federal and State regulations for chlorine, fluoride, pH, iron, conductivity, hardness, or other components; logs test results; adjusts chemical treatment for optimal operations. Operates chemical feeders; adjusts flows and chemical dosages; maintains water levels; washes filters; monitors tank levels and residual chlorine; records readings and maintains data logs. Performs general cleaning/maintenance tasks; operates various plant machinery and tools; follows safety procedures; maintains MSDS log book; prepares for and performs emergency activities and plant shutdowns as needed; notifies personnel in emergencies. Operates SCADA and computer systems to monitor and control plant operations; conducts safety meetings and plant tours as appropriate. Water Treatment Plant Operator II

to perform skilled work associated with water treatment plant operations and maintenance, ensuring a continuous, adequate supply of potable water meeting Federal/State regulations. Provides supervisory support and lead activities as assigned; monitors processes; inspects installations; supervises tests on water samples; directs corrective actions for malfunctions; reviews plant logs and testing devices. Collects water samples; analyzes for chemical characteristics; ensures regulatory compliance; maintains documentation; assists in developing procedures and laboratory protocols. Operates and maintains equipment, monitors safety and process operations; performs emergency procedures and routine communications. Follows safety procedures and maintains MSDS logs; participates in staff meetings and plant tours. Water Treatment Plant Operator III
: Hourly Rate Starting (depending on experience):
$24.18 Purpose:
to perform supervisory and skilled work to supervise and operate water treatment plant equipment and facilities; ensure continuous, adequate supply of potable water meeting Federal/State regulations. Provides direction, guidance and training; coordinates work activities; assigns and oversees work; monitors progress; inspects completed work; troubleshoots problems; assists in supervising operations and maintenance. Assists in developing procedures and laboratory protocols; collects samples; analyzes and ensures purification standards; supervises tests and corrective actions; reviews test reports to determine adequacy of purification. Operates chemical feeders; adjusts dosages; maintains water levels; monitors readings; records data; performs a broad set of skilled/manual tasks related to plant operations; operates various machinery and tools; monitors safety and conducts inventory counts. Performs emergency activities; prepares forms, reports and documents; uses SCADA to monitor operations and troubleshoot problems; attends meetings and conducts plant tours. ADDITIONAL FUNCTIONS Performs miscellaneous tasks in support of department operations; may include receiving packages, moving boxes, delivering documents, and assisting or covering for other employees; performs other related duties as required. Qualifications
Plant Operator Maintainer Trainee High school diploma or equivalent; plus five (5) months experience and/or training in equipment maintenance, operation, or water treatment. Possess or obtain within 14 days of hire and maintain a valid State of Florida driver’s license. Individuals selected for this position must successfully complete a training program within two years covering plant operations and maintenance; completion criteria are per Career Path Advancement Requirements. Failure to complete may result in termination from the training program.
Preferred Qualifications Passing score on the State of Florida Class C Drinking Water License written exam or required training for Class C Water License. Valid Florida Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) with appropriate endorsements. Water Treatment Plant Operator I High school diploma or equivalent; training in water treatment; knowledge of water chemistry and safety; one year of related experience. Must possess and maintain valid Florida Class C Water Treatment Plant Operator License. Valid Florida driver’s license. Water Treatment Plant Operator II Technical degree with emphasis in water treatment; three years of related experience. Valid Florida Class B Water Treatment Plant Operator License. Valid Florida driver’s license. Water Treatment Plant Operator III Technical degree with emphasis in water treatment and mechanical trades; five years related experience. Valid Florida Class A Water Treatment Plant Operator License. Valid Florida driver’s license. Communication Competencies
