Water Treatment Plant Operator (SCADA)

Responsible for monitoring the operations of the Complex Water Treatment Plants owned and operated by Seminole County. Also monitors Lift Stations, Wastewater Treatment Facilities, and Re-use Treatment Facilities.
Salary will be determined based on qualifications of candidates who exceed the minimum requirements as outlined within the job description.
Additional compensation may be provided based on licensure.

Maintains remote facility operations and security oversight via SCADA, video camera systems, and intrusion alarm systems. Records operational failures for the Maintenance Department or other agencies as required. Coordinates security responses with Sheriff’s Office, Fire Department, or other agencies as needed.
Coordinates with other Departments, vendors, and contractors for access to secure work sites.
Performs daily operational procedures, laboratory and field analyses, and routine calibrations and maintenance to ensure optimal treatment processes.
Responsible for process control, all process chemicals, and adherence to safety standards. Maintains safety equipment and records.
Assists in maintaining and repairing chemical systems, including hypochlorite and fluoride feed systems, dosing pumps, and associated piping and fittings.
Prepares and submits all required logs, reports, and data to support department operations, budget planning, and purchasing.
Trains staff, oversees assigned tasks, and reports on progress and issues.
Maintains State-mandated professional qualifications through approved C.E.U. courses.
Performs after-hours and on-call duties, responds to emergencies, customer complaints, and maintains water quality documentation.
Collects system samples, develops and modifies flushing programs, and maintains remote facilities and security systems.
Updates operational information via Whiteboard for team awareness.
Additional Duties
: Performs other related work as required. Employees are considered essential during emergencies and may be assigned alternative duties. Minimum qualifications include a High School Diploma or GED, plus at least one year of experience, and a valid Class “C” Water Plant Operator license issued by the Florida Department of Environmental Protection. Equivalent education, training, or experience may be substituted. Must possess and maintain a valid Florida Driver’s License and be familiar with computer operations and data entry related to operational needs. Effective communication skills, knowledge of water treatment practices, and familiarity with relevant regulations are required. The position generally operates independently, requiring strong decision-making, initiative, and responsibility. Proficiency in Microsoft Office, SCADA, GIS (preferred), and hands-on knowledge of pump, well field, chlorination equipment, and analytical instruments are necessary. Must have normal color vision and be available for any hours or days as assigned. Qualifications for respirator use and self-contained breathing apparatus are required. Experience with ozone-based water treatment and customer service issues is desirable.
