Instrumentation and Controls Engineer
Actalent is seeking an experienced Instrumentation and Controls Engineer to oversee the specification and procurement of instrumentation for large frame gas turbines.
Job Description The role involves creating I/O lists, developing and maintaining all supporting instrument documentation, and working closely with project engineering teams to meet customer requirements.
Responsibilities
Specify and procure instrumentation for large frame gas turbines.
Create and maintain I/O lists and support instrument documentation.
Maintain gas turbine control logic documentation.
Support project engineering in addressing customer gas turbine instrumentation needs.
Assess bids for new gas turbine builds.
Determine customer instrumentation and control contract requirements and delivery dates.
Create instrumentation procurement schedules and technical specifications.
Verify supplier quotes and ensure instrumentation compliance with system P&IDs.
Create instrument loops and datasheets.
Develop drawings for instrumentation.
Liaise with clients, suppliers, contractors, and relevant authorities.
Collaborate with design engineers, operations engineers, and other internal staff.
Resolve customer comments on drawings.
Create and maintain I&C procedures and checklists.
Troubleshoot and solve problems at various project sites.
Ensure compliance with technical standards of the country of operation.
Interpret and apply applicable codes such as ISA, ANSI/NEMA, NFPA, AGA.
Qualify new vendors if required.
Travel up to 15%.
Essential Skills
Instrumentation and control systems expertise.
Experience with power generation and gas turbines.
5+ years of relevant I&C experience in power plants, process/chemical plants, or oil & gas.
Knowledge of P&ID and process instrumentation diagrams.
Familiarity with plant processing systems like Netmation, MK5, MK6, Complicity, T3000, R3000, Simatic, Ovation, Delta V.
Understanding of pressure transmitters, switches, gauges, control valves, thermocouples, RTD, vibration, speed, positioners, LVDT, level, calorimeter, CEMS, emissions, and balance of plant.
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret technical documents.
Proficiency in mathematics and statistical inference.
Strong problem-solving and reasoning abilities.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Engineering or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Highly desirable experience with control valves.
Understanding of Smart Plant Instrumentation (SPI) and Smart Plant 3D (S3D).
Experience conducting Factory Acceptance Tests (FATs).
Capability to support field operations and perform on-site installations.
Start-up commissioning, operations, troubleshooting support, and root cause analysis.
Work Environment Engineering office with a team of about six professionals, focusing on projects spread across North and South America. Occasional travel up to 15%.
Job Type & Location Contract to Hire position based out of Lake Mary, Florida.
