Brightsmith is partnered with an exciting VC-backed nuclear reactor company. They are innovating traditional power plant technology to deploy nuclear power quicker and cheaper. The company is dual UK/US headquartered and is seeking a Senior Electrical Engineer to join the technical team in Houston, Texas. Base pay range
$170,000.00/yr - $210,000.00/yr Responsibilities
Provide advanced technical and engineering problem-solving in support of nuclear plant operations. Lead on-site installation, testing, troubleshooting, and commissioning of electrical and I&C systems for power generation projects. Deliver in-depth engineering analysis and programs, manage tasks from concept through to completion with proper configuration management. Apply engineering principles to tasks ensuring compliance with design criteria, codes, and standards. Conduct independent research, reviews, and analyses in support of technical programs. Recommend equipment, concepts, or techniques to improve performance, reduce costs, or address design/material issues in line with updated codes and regulations. Provide engineering support for electrical and I&C systems, including high- and low-voltage power distribution, generator protection, control systems, DCS, PLCs, SCADA, and field instrumentation. Interpret and validate design drawings, single-line diagrams, wiring diagrams, and control logic. Evaluate vendor documents for electrical and I&C equipment and interface with OEMs. Support site construction teams with guidance on installation, cable routing, terminations, grounding, and loop checks. Ensure construction adheres to design specifications, safety codes (NEC, IEEE, IEC), and QA/QC procedures. Lead commissioning activities for electrical and I&C systems, including cold and hot loop checks, system energization, instrument calibration and functional checks, and generator synchronization and protection relay testing. Collaborate with start-up teams to verify proper operation of gas turbines, steam turbines, HRSG controls, and balance-of-plant systems. Qualifications
Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering, Instrumentation, Control Systems, or related field (Master’s preferred). 5-10 years of experience in electrical and I&C roles within power generation, including at least 5 years in field construction/commissioning of gas turbine or combined cycle plants. Strong knowledge of rotating machinery, excitation systems, electrical protections, and advanced I&C logic for HRSG and turbine controls. Hands-on experience with OEM systems such as GE Mark VIe, Siemens SPPA-T3000, and Emerson Ovation. Familiarity with applicable codes and standards: NEC, IEEE, NFPA, NETA. Proficiency in reading and troubleshooting P&IDs, loop drawings, and electrical schematics. Seniority level
