In this position, we are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Subject Matter Expert (SME) in Rubber Molding to join our Supplier Technical Assistance (STA) team. This critical role involves applying deep technical knowledge to ensure quality, drive continuous improvements, and provide expert guidance in rubber processing and manufacturing within our global supply base.

Qualifications

Bachelor of Science/Engineering or equivalent combination of relevant education and experience.

5+ years experience with rubber processing and manufacturing.

Experience in Project Management and/or major program launches.

Knowledge of problem solving and process improvement.

Ability to speak and write in English fluently to effectively communicate with global teams.

Ability to travel up to 70%.

MS in engineering

Preferred 5-10 years of experience in manufacturing process(es), with a significant portion of this experience dedicated manufacturing processes and process control relevant to rubber molding.

Preferred knowledge of and experience in tire building and construction including Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards (FMVSS) regulations.

Experience in individual and team coaching, mentoring and development.

Ability to effectively use Microsoft Office applications to generate professional charts, graphs, presentations, and reports.

This position is a range of salary grade 7 or 8.

Candidates who are in commuting distance to a Ford hub location may be required to be onsite 4 or more days per week.

What you’ll do...

Technical Leadership:

Serve as a technical authority for rubber components (including mixing, molding, adhesion, and testing) and related special manufacturing processes.

Problem Solving:

Lead and support technical problem‑solving efforts for quality issues (e.g., Stop Ships, Field Actions, QRs), production supply challenges, and warranty concerns related to rubber molded parts including onsite visits.

Process Improvement:

Drive continuous improvement initiatives in materials, manufacturing processes, methods, and equipment for rubber molding, keeping abreast of the latest technical developments and communications with our Product Development teams.

Training & Mentoring:

Develop and deliver technical training to provide mentoring and consulting to internal teams and suppliers on best practices in rubber manufacturing processes and rubber materials.

Design for Manufacturing:

Interface with Product Development and Supplier teams to provide expert input on design for manufacturing feasibility for new rubber component designs including work on new technology projects and related forums.

Quality Assurance:

Ensure the implementation of robust quality planning and execution tools within the supply chain, upholding supplier quality standards for rubber products.

Supplier Engagement:

Work with Supplier Partners by routine onsite assessments and forward model reviews for new programs.

Required Competencies & Skills:

Manufacturing Expertise:

Demonstrated mastery in Rubber Processing (including mixing, molding, and testing), rubber materials, and related technology/equipment.

Problem Solving:

Proven mastery in problem‑solving and process improvement methodologies. (Kaizen, Shainin, 6‑Sigma, DMAIC)

Technical Acumen:

Strong understanding of statistics, mathematics, and problem‑solving analysis tools, with the ability to read and understand technical documents for requirements and testing criteria.

Communication:

Excellent data presentation and communication skills, with the ability to effectively interact with global teams and senior management.

Innovation & Project Management:

Ability to leverage innovation and apply project management principles for leading action items to closure and promoting systemic quality improvements.

Failure Mode Avoidance:

Strong knowledge and application of failure mode avoidance techniques.
