The McIntire School of Commerce at the University of Virginia is seeking an Assistant Director of Student Engagement and Global Programs. The Student Engagement and Academic Advising team leads onboarding and orientation programs, global study experiences, community-building events, and academic and global programs advising and support for Commerce-related student organizations. This position advances McIntire’s mission to prepare students to thrive as global citizens and future business leaders by managing a dynamic portfolio of global programs and delivering high-quality academic advising services. The School offers a Bachelor of Science in Commerce and Master of Science degrees in several programs. McIntire educates students to become leaders who shape global business with integrity, purpose, intercultural fluency, and a commitment to the common good. Responsibilities

Global Advising

Primary advisor for incoming exchange students, short-term study abroad, and a subset of undergraduate semester study abroad programs. Guide academic planning, partner university offerings, visa processes, housing, and intercultural preparation. Develop pre-departure and re-entry programming and provide onboarding and ongoing support for international students. Collaborate with partner institutions to align with UVA and McIntire standards and set expectations for the student experience. Create and maintain program resources and promotional materials. Lead or support global program selection and scholarship processes, student workshops, and events. Academic Advising

Advise a designated cohort of undergraduate Commerce students through one-on-one appointments, small group advising, and proactive communication. Discuss course selection, academic planning, degree requirements, and goal setting. Refer students to appropriate School and University resources; maintain accurate student records; use advising technologies (e.g., Stellic and SIS). Collaborate with faculty and academic support teams to enhance the advising experience. Student Engagement

Design and implement student engagement initiatives aligned with SSO goals. Host or attend student events, workshops, and major school-wide programs. The Assistant Director May

Participate in committees, work groups, and strategic initiatives. Contribute to assessment efforts to evaluate student learning outcomes and program effectiveness. Be considered for participation in study abroad programming as a travel coordinator (not required). Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

Education: Master’s degree Experience: At least three years of experience. Additional experience can substitute for the Master’s requirement. Preferred Qualifications

Master’s degree in Higher Education, International Education, Student Affairs, Counseling, or a related field is preferred. Experience in academic advising, education abroad, or student affairs is highly preferred. Experience supporting global initiatives, study abroad programs, international travel with students and faculty, and engagement with international student populations. Ability to design and facilitate interactive workshops and presentations for college students. Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and budget management. Strong skills in Microsoft 365 and virtual collaboration platforms (e.g., Zoom, Teams). Familiarity with student advising systems such as Stellic. Experience with program assessment and using data to improve outcomes. The ideal candidate should have strong administrative, organizational, and interpersonal skills; excellent written and verbal communication; adaptability, professionalism, and a service-oriented mindset; and the ability to collaborate effectively in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment. Physical Demands

This is primarily a sedentary role with extensive computer use. Occasional travel to attend meetings and programs may be required. Compensation and Start Date

Anticipated Hiring Range: $55,000 – $62,000, commensurate with education and experience. Anticipated Start Date: January 5, 2026. Work Location and Benefits

This is an exempt, benefited position. UVA benefits information available. Based in Charlottesville, VA with a hybrid schedule after required in-person training and supervisor approval; remote work guidelines apply.
