Senior NPDES Permitting and Compliance Manager

to join our Gulf Coast and Energy Branch in either our

Houston, Texas or Baton Rouge, Louisiana

office locations. The ideal candidate will have at least 8 years of experience providing wastewater and stormwater permitting and regulatory compliance services. This position will collaborate regularly with our Capital Project development teams, as well as other core practices within the firm such as natural resource specialists, air and noise specialists, geologists, and civil engineers.

Essential Duties And Responsibilities

Collaboration and mentoring are cornerstones of Geosyntec’s culture. We operate under a sell-manage-do culture, and so we expect that you’d work on challenging technical projects while leveraging your existing knowledge and experience to help Geosyntec expand its current practices and capabilities through business development and client management. You may also be asked to take on project management responsibilities, along with staff management and development, and mentoring tasks. Some of the key responsibilities may include:

Managing and preparing NPDES permit applications for industrial dischargers to surface waters and publicly owned treatment works (POTWs) and negotiating permit conditions. Support clients in addressing NPDES violations by conducting investigations, preparing documentation, developing corrective action plans, and coordinating with legal counsel and regulatory agencies to facilitate resolution and maintain compliance. Provide technical oversight and input on the design, modification, and optimization of water and wastewater treatment systems to ensure regulatory compliance and operational efficiency. Managing and conducting surface water quality evaluations, compliance planning, and reasonable potential analyses. Managing multiple projects within the scope/budget/schedule expectations and ensuring quality standards on project deliverables; Managing the overall delivery of projects including, project planning and controls, financial management, change management, risk management, and contract/subcontract management; Effectively stewarding and building client relationships to repeat business; Developing business opportunities with new and existing clients and preparing associated proposals.

Education and Licensure

Bachelor’s degree in environmental science, environmental engineering, chemistry, toxicology or a related field. (required) Advanced degree in the same. (preferred) Professional registration (i.e., P.E., P.G.) (preferred)

Skills, Experience And Qualifications

At least 8 years of experience in NPDES permitting and regulatory compliance for chemical, energy, and industrial manufacturing; or equivalent combination of education and experience. (required) Prior consulting experience. (preferred) Knowledge of federal and state regulations relating to water quality such as Section 402 of the Clean Water Act. (required) Experience integrating permitting and water quality requirements into design and troubleshooting water and wastewater treatment systems. (preferred) Experience managing the overall delivery of projects including, project planning and controls, financial management, change management, risk management, and contract/subcontract management. (required) Experience managing and developing staff. (required) Field work and overnight travel may be required. Health & Safety training, medical monitoring, and client-driven drug and background testing may be required. Valid U.S. driver’s license and a satisfactory driving record for business travel. (required)
