Overview: The Small Business Administration (SBA) Business Development Officer is responsible for sourcing, developing, and managing relationships with a network of financial professionals and other referral sources to primarily identify SBA 7(a) and 504 loans. Being an SBA Commercial Lender requires engagement with business members and business prospects to ensure their ongoing needs are addressed and to understand the broader needs of the small business community. Essential Responsibilities: Proactively generate new SBA loan opportunities through networking, referrals, outbound & in person calling, and other business development opportunities Serve as liaison between the members, underwriting, closing department, and SBA processing teams to ensure timely and successful loan closings Structure SBA loan proposals to meet member needs and ensure alignment with SBA guidelines and credit union policy Collect and prepare loan packages to submit to underwriting Collect, prepare, and submit SBA loan packages to underwriting Collaborate, respond, and follow up on underwriter questions and requests for additional information. Monitor and manage loan portfolio Analyze and prepare loan servicing requests on an as-needed basis Make every effort to ensure borrower payments do not go past due by maintaining regular points of contact throughout the year Maintain up-to-date knowledge of SBA products, rules, and regulations Establish operational processes that conform with SBA SOP guidelines Document accurate and all sales activity in accordance with management’s expectation Provides coaching, training, and development opportunities for Business Relationship Managers & Commercial Lending Officers Education and Experience: High school diploma or GED required; college degree in accounting, finance, or business preferred Minimum five years of experience in SBA Lending (7a, 504, SBA Express) required Proven track record of SBA loan production, business development success, and strong relations within the industry Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Interpersonal and customer service skills to provide an exceptional member experience Strong verbal and written communication skills to interact with both members and internal team members in a professional manner Knowledge of SBA SOP guidelines and loan processing requirements Thorough understanding of credit union products and services At GECU, we want to support your wellbeing by offering a wide range of benefits: Health, Dental and Vision insurance Life and Disability insurance options Paid Time Off starts accruing once hired and take your birthday off - paid 401k Retirement plan with up to a 10% match of your base gross compensation Tuition reimbursement opportunities & professional development Volunteer opportunities -and earn additional PTO hours!
