Job Description and Duties
Under the general direction of the Chief Psychologist, the Senior Psychologist assumes administrative responsibilities for programs within the Mental Health Services Delivery System (MHSDS). As the Program Director, the role provides evaluations, diagnoses, and treatment for inmates; accepts inmates from other levels of care; participates in intake assessments and treatment planning; facilitates the Interdisciplinary Treatment Team; administers psychological tests and conducts research as needed.
Responsibilities Administer and oversee psychology programs within the MHSDS.
Provide clinical evaluation, diagnosis, and treatment for inmates.
Participate in intake assessments and treatment planning.
Facilitate Interdisciplinary Treatment Team meetings.
Administer psychological tests and conduct related research as needed.
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications Possession of a valid license as a Psychologist issued by the California Board of Psychology and possession of an earned Doctorate Degree in Psychology from an educational institution meeting the criteria of Section 2914 of the Medical Board of California's Business and Professions Code. Applicants who do not yet hold licensure may be admitted to the examination, but must secure a California psychology license before appointment.
Either one year of experience in the California state service performing the duties of a Psychologist Clinical, Correctional Facility, or Staff Psychologist (any specialty);
Or two years of postdoctoral, postinternship experience in psychology involving assessment and treatment and either training, research, consultation, or program planning in mental health services.
To obtain list eligibility for the SENIOR PSYCHOLOGIST, CORRECTIONAL FACILITY (SUPERVISOR), you must first take and pass the corresponding examination. Additional information is available in the Duty Statement.
Benefits and Pay
Pay ranges are provided by CCHCS. Base pay range details are available through your recruiter. Specifics include:
Recruitment and Retention Bonus may be available for newly hired clinicians.
$10,000 one-time recruitment and retention stipend if eligible, plus up to $20,000 in monthly differential during the first year if eligible.
CDCR/CCHCS employees may be eligible for a $5,000 referral bonus if hired and remain employed for 90 days (a questionnaire is required during pre-employment).
Note: Effective July 1, 2025, PLP 2025 provisions may apply, reducing base salary by 3 percent with 5 hours PLP 2025 leave credits monthly through June 2027 for eligible employees.
