Assistant Manager

for the

Columbia Ice Rink —a full-size, year-round rink offering high-quality skating, hockey, figure skating, and community programs. About the Role: Reporting to the Ice Rink General Manager and serving as a key member of the facility’s leadership team, the

Assistant Manager

plays a pivotal role in ensuring smooth daily operations, a safe and welcoming environment, and outstanding customer service. This is a

highly interactive and hands-on leadership position , responsible for staff management, program execution, facility oversight, and operational efficiency. You’ll help fulfill Columbia Association’s mission of enhancing community well-being by supporting active, social, and healthier lives through movement and connection. Key Responsibilities

Supervise and support front-line staff, Managers on Duty (MODs), and snack bar operations

Lead recruiting, onboarding, training, scheduling, and performance management of team members

Maintain high standards for

customer service, cleanliness, and safety

Assist in managing facility budgets, bank deposits, invoices, and purchasing

Operate the

ice-resurfacing machine (Zamboni)

and oversee ice maintenance needs

Take the lead on

program and rental oversight , including scheduling, communications, and marketing updates

Act as the

primary manager on duty

in the absence of the GM and during assigned shifts

Uphold compliance with CA policies, OSHA standards, and cash handling protocols

Ensure the rink is fully operational, from mechanical systems to guest experience touchpoints

Qualifications

Minimum

2 years of supervisory or management experience , ideally in recreation, sports, or hospitality

Experience working in a

multi-use or recreational facility

strongly preferred

Bachelor's degree in business, management, or related field preferred

Strong communication and conflict-resolution skills

Skilled in multitasking, problem-solving, and decision-making

Ability to lead by example, foster teamwork, and create a positive, service-oriented culture

Proficiency in Microsoft Office; familiarity with Club Automation or similar CRM systems a plus

Willingness to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed

Must be CPR/AED and First Aid certified (or willing to obtain)

Compensation & Benefits

Salary range:

$55,000–$60,000

(based on experience and qualifications)
