Overview ABOUT THE POSITION

VHB’s Transportation Planning and Operations Co-op - Watertown, MA is designed to introduce students into the workforce. The program will build essential professional skills by offering opportunities for hands‑on learning in a supportive yet challenging environment. The intern program is designed to round out participants’ academic learning with real world experience and help them explore related areas of practice to find the best fit for their career path.

Co‑op terms generally run from January – June 2026.

Our Transportation Planning & Operations team works with public, private, and institutional clients to support a variety of projects. Our services include operational analysis, multimodal planning, conceptual design, parking analysis, and safety evaluations. We collaborate across our footprint with numerous other VHB groups such as Traffic Design, Transportation Engineering, Environmental and Land Development on many of our transformative projects.

Responsibilities

Collaborate with numerous VHB staff, clients, and consultants to advance projects in a timely manner

Assist in development of planning and engineering solutions

Assist in data mining and visualization

Perform analysis of data or calculations

Perform field data collection and other on‑site project support activities

Prepare written documents, summarize information collected by others, and assemble reports

Skills and Abilities

Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills

Team oriented with strong capability to work independently

Self‑motivated with attention to detail

A strong work ethic with the desire to learn and achieve

Knowledge of drawing and mapping tools such as AutoCAD and GIS

Knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word and Excel) required

Qualifications

Currently pursuing a degree in engineering, planning or a related field

Strong interest in transportation, land development, urban design, real estate, environmental, institutional, or energy sector

Ability to work on a computer remotely if necessary

Ability to travel locally and complete fieldwork if necessary
