Transportation Supervisor
– Provide direction, support, and oversight to office staff, school bus drivers, attendants and/or monitors at a Dean operation center to ensure safe and reliable transportation of students and other passengers. Driving a school bus may be required, as needed. Specific Requirements
Meet all general qualifications for employment. Possess a high school diploma or equivalent. Possess experience in the school bus industry or transportation field. Possess prior supervisory or management experience. Meet company and state standards for driving record check. Meet company, state, and school district standards for criminal history check. Meet state physical examination requirements. Pass drug and alcohol screening as established by company. Meet Michigan School Bus Supervisory Continuing Education Requirements. Successfully pass Dean Transportation School Bus Driver Training Program, including classroom instruction, behind the wheel instruction, and written/driving tests. Meet Michigan School Bus Driver Certification Requirements, including minimum hours of instruction and knowledge examination; pass driving skills tests per local, county, and state standards. Meet state requirements for appropriate commercial vehicle licensing. Specific Responsibilities
Maintain a positive and professional relationship with student passengers, parents/guardians, contracting agency, Dean Transportation staff, and the public. Establish safe and efficient transportation routes. Supervise dean transportation employees; provide direction, leadership, counseling, recognition, and discipline as appropriate. Review and respond to passenger behavioral concerns. Interview, select and process applicants; maintain staffing levels. Determine equipment and vehicle needs, including bus seating and accessibility considerations. Participate in weekly conference calls, monthly supervisor meetings, and annual supervisor in-service. Prepare accurate billing information for field trips, mileage logs, and student attendance reports. Organize and attend school bus training events; perform other duties as required. When applicable, supervise driving and/or assist with dispatching; conduct pre-trip and post-trip inspections; ensure safety procedures; drive defensively and prioritize passenger safety. Establish relationships with drivers, office and maintenance personnel, attendants, and school staff; pursue self-improvement through training and in-services. Requirements / Abilities
Proficiency with computers, multi-line phones, and office equipment. Excellent attendance and strong teamwork skills. Effective verbal and written communication; strong organizational and interpersonal skills. Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and solve problems efficiently. Ability to supervise and evaluate staff; travel occasionally to other Dean Transportation operations within regional service area. Plan, organize, and direct school bus transportation services; manage multiple tasks simultaneously. Represent Dean Transportation positively to others and understand local service area regulations. Knowledge of rules and regulations from local, state, and federal agencies; knowledge of state laws and local ordinances. Ability to handle passenger behavioral challenges and administer disciplinary procedures per company policies. Be alert, exercise good judgment in emergencies and day-to-day operations; conduct bus evacuation drills as required. Keep accurate records and reports; submit legibly and on time; maintain professional demeanor at all times. Operate vehicle lifts per policy; secure equipment; assist with wheelchair-related needs (up to 40 lb handling as required). Body Mechanics
School Bus Drivers are required to perform physical tasks that involve lifting, pulling, bending and carrying heavy objects. Examples include pre-trip inspections, assisting passengers, loading equipment, and evacuations when necessary. Seniority level
