Overview
The primary focus of this position is to provide diabetes education to patients and staff at UC Irvine Health and ensure that the diabetes program meets evidence based best practice standards. The Certified Diabetic Educator (CDE) RN is responsible for designing, promoting and evaluating the patient/family diabetes education program for UCI Health. The CDE is responsible for providing education in diabetes self-management to patients, and their families, newly diagnosed with diabetes, as well as for those managing diabetes for years. The CDE will work closely with the multidisciplinary team to develop policies and protocols pertaining to diabetes. The CDE RN will apply the nursing process in providing patient/family education in the inpatient and outpatient setting, and will participate in the assessment, implementation and evaluation of staff educational programs. The CDE RN serves as a role model and clinical resource to colleagues, staff, patients and students.
Responsibilities
Provide diabetes education to patients and staff at UC Irvine Health.

Qualifications Required Qualifications
Must demonstrate customer service skills appropriate to the job
Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English
Demonstrated teaching/education/in-service skills for patients and staff
Demonstrated ability to develop curriculum for patient and staff education
CDE within 6 months of hire
Preferred Qualifications
Certified Pump Trainer (CPT)
3 pumps, 1 sensor Board Certified
Advanced Diabetes Management Licenses and Certifications: Registered Nurse Certified Diabetic Educator (within 6 months of hire)
Basic Life Support
Education: Bachelor of Science, Nursing
