Job Summary
The Mental Health Admission Specialist will coordinate admissions to the inpatient mental health and detox units within M Health Fairview. Admissions are processed through the emergency departments. The Mental Health Admission Specialist is responsible for taking clinical from mental health professionals, identifying a bed and a provider, and reviewing with psychiatric providers. They will manage a wait list and actively take phone calls from various partners and community callers while providing the highest quality of customer service.
Responsibilities
Answer direct emergency admission line and collect and enter needed information into Epic.
Prioritize and expedite internal transfers, transfers between all M Health Fairview hospitals, and transfer admissions from ED and other medical areas.
Assess and triage client admissions using identified admission criteria.
Document complete and accurate demographic and clinical information.
Coordinate emergency inpatient admissions to acute care units from external sources.
Coordinate same day inpatient admissions to acute care units from internal and external sources.
Coordinate internal and external physician-to-physician phone consultations.
Confer RN Patient Placement, accepting physician, and sending physician to collect appropriate data and place the patient on the correct floor according to clinical service or acuity.
Communicate admissions to patient care units and referring sites.
Facilitate inpatient admissions from external facilities, entering data into Epic to alert units.
Coordinate transfers and discharges, including internal unit-to-unit transfers and hospital-to-hospital transfers.
Assist unit staff with environmental service requests and Epic entries for admissions, transfers, updates, and discharges in a timely and accurate manner.
Facilitate inpatient consultations and complex care huddles on acute patients.
Demonstrate universal competencies: commitment to customers, employees, Fairview, and organization expectations.
Qualifications Education
High School Diploma
Experience
1 year in customer service setting
1 year in call center setting
1 year in a mental health setting
Preferred
HealthCare related AA
Patient placement experience in a fast‑paced call center environment.
