Physician Assistant - Heart & Vascular Center, Surgery at Lexington Medical Center. Full Time. AM/PM Shift, 7a-7p, includes call. Responsibilities
Assesses the physical and psychosocial status of patients by means of interview, health history, physical examination and diagnostic tests. Interprets the data, develops and implements a plan of treatment, follows through on a continuum of patient care across the health-illness continuum and life span within protocols set forth and approved by both the Physician Assistant and Physicians. Provides a wide spectrum of direct health care services to patients of all ages under the supervision of a licensed physician. Maintains documentation of patient care: accurate records, medication lists, and follow-up as required for administrative purposes and reimbursement; adheres to the agreed-upon documentation format/protocols and ensures documentation supports service level and coding requirements. Performs clinical duties including intake of patient history, physical examinations, order/interpret diagnostic studies, establish differential diagnoses, determine treatment plans, assess need for hospitalization or physician intervention, and schedule follow-up/ referrals as appropriate. Provides health education to patients about disease processes, self-care practices, and preventive care; develops and delivers educational programs for patients, families, and targeted audiences. Maintains licensure/certification and participates in ongoing professional development to maintain competency. Qualifications
Minimum Education: Master\'s Degree from an accredited college or university. Minimum Years of Experience: None. Substitutable Education & Experience: None. Required Certifications/Licensure: Approved South Carolina state licensing through a local medical licensing office and/or board of Medical Examiners. Required Training: CAHEA/AMA/Association of Medical Colleges approved program or equivalent; CPR, BLS. Essential Functions
Responsive to patient and office staff requests; maintain accurate patient charts/records. Document care thoroughly and maintain accurate records; ensure proper documentation for reimbursement and service level. Maintain organized work area and ensure availability of supplies. Provide diagnosis and treatment of common acute illnesses; preventive care for stable chronic illnesses; perform interim physical exams for healthy patients within guidelines. Perform and document comprehensive medical history and review of systems; conduct physical exams and order appropriate diagnostic studies; establish differential diagnoses and treatment plans; assess need for hospitalization or specialist intervention; determine follow-up timing and referrals; provide health maintenance counseling and anticipatory guidance. Educate patients on health improvement strategies; develop and deliver educational programs; maintain records and documentation for administrative purposes and reimbursement. Adhere to documentation standards; maintain appropriate level of documentation to support service complexity and billing; review and update problem lists regularly; document telephone contacts and office visits clearly. Participate in ongoing education to maintain and enhance competency; maintain licensure/certification. Performs all other duties as assigned; follow safety procedures to ensure a safe environment.
