Unit Description:
The Colorectal Surgery and Urology Unit consists of 22 semi-private rooms. This post-surgical setting cares for patients who have undergone colorectal and urologic surgery.
Procedures performed on unit include:
Assist with chest tube insertion, central lines, wound vac changes, NG, Cortrak, catheter, indwelling catheters.
Role Summary:
The Registered Professional Nurse assesses, coordinates, plans, directs, implements, and manages the needs of assigned patients throughout their episode of care, focusing on progress toward discharge, including transitions within the acute care stay. The nurse ensures that compassionate, competent patient care is provided to patients, referring facilities, and hospital staff in inpatient, ambulatory, and community settings.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
Implement physician orders, administer medications, start IVs, perform treatments, procedures, and special tests, and document treatments as required by policies and regulations.
Order, interpret, and evaluate diagnostic tests to assess patient conditions.
Assess and evaluate patient needs and responses to care rendered.
Apply sound nursing judgment in patient care management decisions.
Administer over-the-counter and prescription medications as ordered.
Collaborate with the nursing team to create a Plan of Care for all patients.
Guide and supervise ancillary personnel while maintaining professional nursing standards.
Minimum Qualifications:
Graduate of a professional nursing program (Diploma, Associate, or Baccalaureate Degree).
Current NYS Registered Nurse license.
Certification in BLS/ACLS/PALS/TNCC (must be maintained).
Commitment to ongoing professional development through continuing education.
