Sr. Concrete Paving Engineer role at Sundt Construction. Senior Concrete Paving Engineer, ideally located in AZ, TX, or UT, with concrete paving experience on Heavy Highway projects. This position is the technical source of information for the project and requires thorough knowledge of construction documents, subcontracts, and purchase orders. Responsibilities include addressing questions about drawings, specifications, shop drawings, and change orders, and maintaining professional relationships with owners, architects, engineers, subcontractors and suppliers. Opportunities to assist with supervision and training of Field Engineers are available. The role progresses through three steps (I, II, Senior) based on experience. Key Responsibilities
Demonstrates understanding of the Project Management Plan components and change management. Develops a procurement schedule, integrates it with the project CPM schedule, procures materials/equipment, coordinates submittals, and ensures submittals comply with contract documents. Understands prime contract, subcontracts, purchase orders, and allowances; manages budgeting and cost control; demonstrates business acumen within area of responsibility. Maintains "As-built" contract documents and compiles close-out requirements (operating/maintenance manuals, warranties, etc.). May participate in concrete form design, equipment selection, and takeoffs for concrete, asphalt concrete, earthwork, and utilities as required. Plans, develops, and supervises project team members to ensure relentless execution; prepares and maintains quantity reporting, meeting minutes, and project logs. Prepares and reviews change orders and time extensions; manages change order log and distributes documents; manages cost control budget adjustments. Prevents/identifies potential claims and mitigates effects if they occur. Minimum Job Requirements
Advanced knowledge of construction engineering technology, codes, standards, etc., and understanding of interdependencies between functional units. Four-year construction-related degree or equivalent technical training and related experience; minimum of 3–4 years of similar construction engineering experience. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills; ability to manage a multidisciplinary team; capability to supervise/train Field Engineers if required. Thorough understanding of Concrete Paving. Physical Requirements
Ability to wear PPE (steel-toe shoes, gloves, safety glasses, hearing protection, hardhat, vest, etc.). Frequent reaching above shoulder heights and below the waist; occasional stooping, kneeling or bending. Use of telephone/computer/electronic devices; ability to comply with safety standards. Occasional climbing of stairs/ladders; frequent handling of objects; regular interaction with people; occasional lifting/pushing/pulling; ability to sit/stand/walk for extended periods.
