Overview
Transportation Surveyor Party Chief (Caltrans) Location: San Bernardino County; assignments may be at any office within District 8 (San Bernardino and Riverside Counties). In this role, you supervise field survey crews and operations and may supervise both professional and technical staff. A valid California Land Surveyors' License or equivalent is required to perform at this level. A valid driver's license is required when operating State vehicles. Responsibilities
Direct and supervise survey field crews and operations, with direct and responsible charge of work. Supervise professional and technical staff; ensure survey data accuracy and timely delivery of deliverables. Direct the use, care, and storage of surveying instruments; implement methods from the Caltrans Surveys Manual. Implement current safety procedures as described in Caltrans safety programs. Oversee data collection systems, research, verification, and adjustment of survey data. Interpret construction plans and perform complex surveying from field to finish, including QA / QC of survey data. Operate and supervise use of surveying software and hardware (e.g., Microsoft Office, Civil 3D, Trimble Business Center, Trimble Access, Starnet) and equipment (GPS, Total Stations, Data Collectors, Digital Levels). Lead and communicate effectively; maintain a safe, inclusive work environment and promote equal opportunity in hiring and development. Minimum Qualifications and Requirements
California Land Surveyors' License or equivalent required. Possession of a valid driver's license when operating state vehicles. Knowledge and experience with surveying methods, equipment, and reading construction plans and records (e.g., corner records, Parcel Maps, Records of Survey, Field Notes). Experience leading a survey crew and working in responsible charge of projects; ability to supervise personnel and coordinate with others. Proficiency with software and hardware: Civil 3D, Trimble Business Center, Trimble Access, Starnet; Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook). Ability to interpret preliminary design requests and construction plans; familiarity with Land Surveyors' Act and Subdivision Map Act. Salary and Benefits
Base pay range:
