Job Summary Maintain, repair, replace, and install all phases of HVAC systems and equipment, ensuring quality building environments for students, faculty, and staff. Perform air filter changes, clean/replace vents, and report issues to the department coordinator.

Responsibilities

Assist in operating, maintaining, altering, and repairing Facilities Maintenance equipment and HVAC systems at the Modesto Maidique Campus, performing preventive maintenance on all HVAC systems, units, and equipment.

Operate four Carrier Chillers (1500 tons), seven Trane Chillers (5‑1500 and 2‑1000 tons), and one York Chiller (1000 tons) across various plant locations. Assist with corrective and preventative maintenance of these units and associated equipment. Operate motor vehicles to transport materials.

Perform preventive maintenance on air handlers, pumps, and ventilation systems, including belt adjustments, filter cleaning, coil cleaning, motor replacement, bearing lubrication, general cleaning, and periodic painting.

Operate, maintain, and repair 0.5 to 25 ton central/package A/C units and individual A/C units on campus; perform coil cleaning, motor repairs/replacement, Freon charging and recovery, electrical switch control replacements, and routine preventive maintenance.

Operate and maintain cooling towers, fan motor/drive repairs, pump cleaning, water analysis, and water treatment equipment inspection.

Operate and maintain all chilled water pumps, exhaust/supply fans, water coolers, and lab fume hoods and associated fans (lubricate, clean, repair, replace).

Operate the FIU Energy Management Systems to monitor building temperatures and settings.

Use the FIU Maximo Work Order program to document corrective, routine, and preventive maintenance requests, generating, creating, and completing work orders in a timely manner.

Perform essential duties during emergencies such as hurricanes or storms, available to report to work as needed during university emergency closures.

Minimum Qualifications

High School Diploma or GED.

Two (2) years of HVAC experience; or equivalent combination of specialized training and relevant experience; or an equivalent combination of education and/or experience.

Valid Florida Driver License.

Advertised Salary $35,573 – $42,000

End time: 4:30 PM

Ability to work flexible hours as needed.

Ability to work occasional evenings, weekends, and at locations outside the University.

Shift may vary according to departmental needs.
