Instruction aims to prepare students for ASE/NATEF entry certification and employment skills. Responsibilities
Provide instruction and course/program management of ASE/NATEF Automotive Service Technology certified skill development in the major areas of engine performance, suspension and steering, brakes, electrical/electronic systems, and preventative maintenance. Maintain a safe and orderly learning environment with equipment maintenance and enforcement of all safety regulations. Manage school/program shop accounts and procedures essential to operating a school-based automotive service technology facility. Provide instruction in teamwork, communications, problem solving, decision-making, computer technology, and hands-on technical skills relevant to the automotive workplace. Collaborate with staff and post-secondary institutions to develop Tech Prep career pathways for apprenticeship, industry certification and college/university programs. Use ASE/NATEF industry standards to prepare instructional materials needed to deliver the program effectively. Support student placement and participation in capstone cooperative education opportunities in automotive service and related career areas. Engage with employers and community groups to establish and participate in an active program advisory council. Participate in program promotion, public relations, recruitment and selection of students for the automotive service technology career completer program. Maintain ASE/NATEF certification of the school program through required credentials, advisory committees, continuing automotive education training, and record-keeping. Promote student involvement in youth organizations and automotive skills competitions. Create an instructional environment conducive to the intellectual, physical, social, and emotional development of students. Communicate standards, achievements, and deficiencies to students and parents; meet with students and parents as needed. Maintain complete and accurate student academic, attendance, and disciplinary records; monitor and assess progress. Collaborate with administrators, teachers, paraeducators, parents, and community members in student education. Contribute to the mission of BCPS by striving to attain school goals and perform other duties as assigned. Qualifications
Education, Training, And Experience
High school diploma or equivalent plus three years of automotive experience (in the last ten years). Teaching experience preferred. Licenses and Certifications
Possession of a Maryland Educator Certificate appropriate to the area of assignment, or eligibility for a Maryland Educator License appropriate to the area of assignment. Possession or eligibility for ASE certification in A1 - A8 required. ASE Master Certification preferred. Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities
Knowledge of computer equipment operations and software related to automotive and transportation industries. Knowledge of curriculum, instructional techniques, materials and equipment; ability to prepare and implement lesson plans. Strong communication skills with students, parents, and staff; ability to supervise and manage behavior. Technology competency; experience with databases, internet, spreadsheets, and word processing. Ability to maintain confidential information. Physical And Environmental Conditions
Work is performed in a school-based automotive service laboratory and classroom; ability to move around the school and classroom. Additional Information
