This position is responsible for developing new and innovative products for the metal and plastic repair markets. It requires a senior, experienced chemist and project leader passionate about polymer structure-property relationships, reaction kinetics, and bringing chemical products to market. The role involves team leadership, mentorship, and hands-on lab work, functioning as a "player-coach" with individual projects and team oversight. Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Lead technical projects for customer-backed innovation in reactive polymer composites, primers, and coatings. Create, develop, and scale patentable products for plastic and metal repair markets. Supervise a small team of chemists/technicians working on R&D projects. Use mathematical/statistical models and DOE approaches to analyze structure-property relationships. Manage raw material projects to ensure supply chain stability and cost efficiency. Oversee scale-up, product packaging, QC specifications, and transfer to production. Develop test methods for application testing as needed. Improve the NPD phase gate process from ideation to launch using project management best practices. Participate in plant safety and chemical hygiene initiatives. Perform other duties as assigned. Education and Experience: Master’s degree in Chemistry, Polymer Science/Engineering, or Chemical Engineering; Ph.D. preferred. At least 5 years of relevant industrial experience preferred. Qualifications and Skills: Senior-level bench chemistry formulation proficiency and problem-solving skills. Experience with testing instrumentation, technical writing, and presentations. Project management and statistical tools knowledge (DOE, JMP, Minitab). Rapid prototyping experience; Design for Six Sigma is a plus. Physical Requirements:
