Assists pharmacist in various sections of the department according to assignment. Learns methods and procedures for unit dose drug distribution system, preparing sterile compounds using aseptic technique, packaging and labeling of drugs, handling of DEA controlled substances, billing, receiving stock and clerical record keeping duties. All members of the Pharmacy team are responsible for developing and promoting collaborative and collegial relationships within the department and with nurses, physicians and interdepartmental personnel as they relate to the pharmaceutical care of the patients.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Stocks and maintains inventory in storeroom, on storage shelves, and in picking stations. Receives daily medication order, scans meds into Pharmacy IS systems, and stocks in appropriate areas. Accurately records refrigerator temperatures and logs daily
Conducts monthly floor inspections. Keeps pharmacy areas clean, neat, organized, and well stocked. Properly handles and disposes of expired medications
Maintains records for controlled substances and assist in the preparation and delivery of controlled substances to Nursing Units
Provides quality services in a safe, efficient, effective and timely manner meeting all applicable hospital, regulatory, licensure, and accrediting regulations
Arrives and leaves at designated times. Communicates delays or absences effectively with pharmacist in charge. Responds to constructive feedback and successfully incorporates it into daily performance. Completes hospital required tasks and competencies in a timely manner. Adheres to ethical standard (ex : HIPAA) and follows appropriate guidelines for addressing ethical concerns
Recognizes the names and indications of commonly prescribed medications. Fills orders by selecting correct medication and dosage forms. Accurately refills medications and conducts inventory of Pyxis MedStations. Accurately loads and unloads medications to / from Pyxis MedStations
Communicates effectively with pharmacy staff and other healthcare professionals. Screens and refers incoming phone calls and department visitors to facilitate accurate and timely communication, and ensures department is presented in a positive manner. Promotes teamwork by giving direction and assistance to co-workers when necessary
Demonstrates competency and understanding of IV preparation requirements. Prepares all IV admixtures using proper aseptic technique in accordance with USP Chapter
Maintains an adequate supply of components used for IV admixtures
QUALIFICATIONS
High School graduate or equivalent
Current Pharmacy Technician, Technician Trainee or Pharmacy Intern License from MA Board of Registration in Pharmacy
PREFERRED EDUCATION
Associate’s Degree preferred
Pharmacy Technician Certification preferred
MINIMUM EXPERIENCE
0-1 year of experience
