Overview Job type: Per Diem | Time type: Part time | Work shift: Rotating (United States of America)

The Pharmacy Technician assists the pharmacist in various sections of the department, participates in the unit dose drug distribution system, prepares sterile compounds using aseptic technique, and handles packaging, labeling, DEA controlled substances, billing, stock receiving, and clerical record keeping. All Pharmacy team members are responsible for building collaborative relationships within the department and with nurses, physicians, and interdepartmental personnel to support pharmaceutical care of patients.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities (including but not limited to)

Stock and maintain inventory in storeroom, on storage shelves, and in picking stations. Receive daily medication orders, scan meds into Pharmacy IS systems, and stock in appropriate areas. Accurately record refrigerator temperatures and log daily.

Conduct monthly floor inspections. Keep pharmacy areas clean, neat, organized, and well stocked. Properly handle and dispose of expired medications.

Maintain records for controlled substances and assist in the preparation and delivery of controlled substances to Nursing Units.

Provide quality services in a safe, efficient, effective and timely manner, meeting all applicable hospital, regulatory, licensure, and accrediting regulations.

Arrive and depart at designated times. Communicate delays or absences with the pharmacist in charge. Respond to constructive feedback and incorporate it into daily performance. Complete hospital-required tasks and competencies in a timely manner. Adhere to ethical standards (e.g., HIPAA) and follow guidelines for addressing ethical concerns.

Recognize names and indications of commonly prescribed medications. Fill orders by selecting correct medication and dosage forms. Accurately refill medications and conduct inventory of Pyxis MedStations. Load and unload medications to/from Pyxis MedStations.

Communicate effectively with pharmacy staff and other healthcare professionals. Screen and refer incoming calls and department visitors to facilitate accurate and timely communication, and present the department positively. Promote teamwork by directing and assisting co-workers as needed.

Demonstrate competency in IV preparation requirements. Prepare all IV admixtures using proper aseptic technique in accordance with USP Chapter

or applicable version and maintain an adequate supply of components used for IV admixtures.

Qualifications

High School graduate or equivalent

Current Pharmacy Technician, Technician Trainee or Pharmacy Intern License from MA Board of Registration in Pharmacy

Preferred Education

Associate’s Degree preferred

Pharmacy Technician Certification preferred

Minimum Experience

0-1 year of experience
