Position Responsibilities
Prepare exam room and ultrasound equipment to conduct sonography examinations in accordance with infection control, sterilization, and patient safety protocols. Assume responsibility for patient safety during the examination. Implement Standard Precautions on all patients per hospital policy. Review patient medical history and supporting clinical information to verify physician’s order prior to examination. Ensure the sonography examination order is complete and meets the standard of “medical necessity.” Inspect images for quality and verify proper patient name, date, and medical record number prior to interpretation by Radiologist. Assist with training of new technologists, technical assistants, and physician residents in all phases of assigned procedures as requested. Demonstrate competency and observe safety guidelines when operating all specialized equipment; perform quality control procedures to ensure optimal ultrasound performance. Communicate with the patient in a manner appropriate to their ability to understand. Apply independent judgment during the sonography examination to ensure accurate capture of anatomical, pathological, and clinical conditions in the images. Adjust to variable schedules and/or procedure techniques as required. Report all equipment malfunctions to lead technologist/supervisor and clinical engineering immediately. Maintain and stock the room with supplies necessary to complete the examinations. Demonstrate knowledge and proper use of computer programs, particularly EPIC and SYNAPSE systems. Provide a preliminary report of the sonography examination for the interpreting physician and document any delays in EPIC with date/time and technologist initials. Complete exam data entry on all studies performed daily and ensure images are successfully sent to the PACS system. Check departmental email daily and participate in monthly department staff meetings as scheduled. Qualifications
American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (ARDMS) certification. ARRT certification preferred, but not required. Graduate of an AMA-accredited educational program for Diagnostic Medical Sonographers or equivalent. ARRT radiologic technology graduation preferred, but not required. Applicant must be ARDMS-registered with one to three years of clinical ultrasound experience. Minimum ARDMS certification should include Abdomen or OB/GYN with the other certification completed within six months. Vascular Technologist (RVT) certification preferred, but not required. Benefits
