Position Responsibilities
Prepare exam room and equipment to conduct sonography examinations in accordance with infection disease, sterilization, and patient safety protocols.
Review patient medical history and supporting clinical information to verify physician's order prior to examination.
Ensure that the sonography examination order is complete, contains relevant information, and meets standard medical necessity.
Inspect images for quality and monitor all images with respect to proper patient name, date, and medical record number before radiologist interpretation.
Assist with training of new technologists, technical assistants, and physician residents in all phases of assigned procedures.
Operate all specialized ultrasound equipment, perform quality control procedures, and maintain equipment at optimal levels.
Communicate with patients in a manner appropriate to the patient’s ability to understand.
Apply independent judgment during the sonography examination to capture accurate anatomical, pathological, and clinical conditions.
Adapt to variable schedules and/or procedure techniques as required.
Report all equipment malfunctions to lead technologist/supervisor and clinical engineering immediately.
Maintain and stock room with proper supplies necessary to complete ultrasonic examinations.
Demonstrate knowledge and proper use of computer programs, particularly EPIC and SYNAPSE systems.
Provide a preliminary report electronically or manually of sonography examination for use by interpreting physician and document any exam delays in EPIC "Tech Notes" with date/time and technologist initials.
Complete exam data entry on all studies performed daily and ensure all images were successfully sent to the PACS system.
Check business e‑mail daily, respond as appropriate, and attend monthly department staff meetings as scheduled.
Qualifications
American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (ARDMS) certified. Preferred but not required certification by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologist (ARRT).
Graduate of an AMA Accredited Educational Program for Diagnostic Medical Sonographers or equivalent. Preferred graduate of an AMA Accredited Educational Program in Radiologic Technology (ARRT).
Registered by ARDMS with 1-3 years of clinical ultrasound experience. Minimum ARDMS Registry certification for Abdomen or OB/GYN completed within six months. Vascular Technologist (RVT) certification preferred but not required.
