Department Information The Colorado Department Of Corrections invites applications for a Mental Health Clinician who will provide mental health care to inmates with mental illness, developmental disabilities, or high risk for suicide or self-injury. Several positions are located at multiple facilities in Ordway, CO at the Arkansas Valley Correctional Facility. This posting may be used to fill future vacancies at this location. DESCRIPTION OF JOB Mental Health Clinician This position provides mental health care to a special population of inmates housed in the Colorado Department of Corrections with mental illness, intellectual and developmental disabilities and high risk for suicide and self injury. Assigned caseload will consist primarily of inmates with moderate to high mental health treatment needs. Develop Mental Health treatment plans to serve as the basis for treatment. Provide individual and group therapy. Perform routine mental health assessments and interviews to determine progress. Update diagnosis and psychiatric needs levels. Refer inmates to psychology for more complex psychological assessment. Provide information to psychiatry including client history, previous diagnoses, and alternative treatment options. Participation in 24 hour On Call System. Assure both emergency and non-emergency transfer for inmates experiencing acute mental health crisis. Render clinical direction to non-clinical staff in mental health care and treatment of inmates. Assure continuity of care for inmates by making appropriate referrals and providing necessary information and documentation for transition to receiving units, facilities, or agencies. Minimum Qualifications, Substitutions, Conditions Of Employment & Appeal Rights Minimum Qualifications Applicant must possess a valid, active license from the State of Colorado as a Licensed Professional Counselor, Licensed Clinical Social Worker, Licensed Psychologist or Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist, AND one year of licensed or license candidacy experience with current valid licensure (LSW, LPCC, SWC, or LMFT Candidate) in the mental health and/or sex offender population. Required Competencies Self-control and ability to work in stressful, potentially violent situations; Emotional stability, resilience, and alertness during shifts; Valid license as listed above; crisis assessment and counseling skills; ability to interact effectively with offenders; Excellent written and verbal communication; English proficiency; ability to create accessible documents following plain language guidelines; Strong interpersonal skills. Preferred Qualifications Experience counseling inmates and crisis intervention; Experience conducting suicide risk assessments; Experience as part of a multidisciplinary team.
