Location Ordway, CO – Arkansas Valley Correctional Facility. This posting may be used to fill future vacancies at this location.
Responsibilities
Provide mental health care to inmates with moderate to high treatment needs.
Develop mental health treatment plans and provide individual and group therapy.
Perform routine mental health assessments and interviews.
Update diagnoses and psychiatric needs levels.
Refer inmates to psychology for complex assessments.
Collaborate within a 24‑hour on‑call system.
Emphasize clinical direction to non‑clinical staff and continuity of care.
Maintain accurate documentation and communication with receiving units or agencies.
Minimum Qualifications
Valid, active license from the State of Colorado as a Licensed Professional Counselor, Licensed Clinical Social Worker, Licensed Psychologist, or Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist.
At least 1 year of licensed or license‑candidate experience with mental health or sex offender population, including current valid licensure (LSW, LPCC, SWC, or MT‑C).
Required Competencies
Self‑control and ability to work in stressful, potentially violent situations.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Ability to read, understand, and communicate fluently in English.
Knowledge of crisis assessment and counseling protocols.
Effective interaction with offenders.
Strong interdisciplinary teamwork skills.
Preferred Qualifications
Mental health counseling experience with the inmate population and crisis intervention experience.
Experience conducting suicide risk assessments.
Experience working as a member of a multidisciplinary team.
Conditions of Employment
21 years of age.
Valid driver’s license.
High school diploma or GED.
No felony convictions or sexual offense convictions.
Legally eligible to work in the United States.
Successful completion of CDOC Basic Training and Defensive Tactics modules.
Pass background investigation and drug screening.
