ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Serve as Lead Structural Engineer (SE) to provide conceptual and detailed design of building structures in pre-sales and post-sales stages.
Collaborate with local agencies to ensure compliance with federal, state, and municipal requirements and building codes.
Perform detailed design of mechanical components such as lifting points, anchoring points, flashings, gutters, etc.
Create designs that meet or exceed Vertiv quality standards and adhere to budget constraints.
Develop detailed Schematic Design (SD), Design Development (DD), and Construction Drawing (CD) narratives for structural aspects of the solution.
Review and approve structural product submittals.
Conduct Static and Dynamic (blast impact) calculations.
Coordinate with Mechanical Engineers on thermal transfer calculations, including fire ratings and thermal bridges.
Design foundation requirements in detail.
Manage and coordinate with contracted engineering firms regarding civil, mechanical, and structural calculations, and creation of factory documentation.
Specify materials for structural and finishing components.
Work with Vertiv’s business units, partners, and vendors to specify appropriate materials and sizes for fabrication.
Define project scope and provide technical support during construction.
Specify welding procedures and inspection standards.
Specify Nondestructive Examination (NDE) methods.
Specify surface preparation and painting standards.
Develop and provide dimensional and structural load test procedures and calculations.
Coordinate architectural and civil work designs.
Provide technical project coordination with customers and suppliers.
Ensure quality control during project execution.
Support on-site module repairs such as painting damages or door malfunctions.
Assist fabrication teams in checking and validating construction processes, welding specs, and inspection points.
Visit fabricator facilities for design validation, workmanship review, and evaluations.
Communicate with customers to tailor solutions to their needs.
Offer innovative, out-of-the-box solutions to customers.
JOB QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent experience.
Professional Engineering (PE) License – optional.
Minimum 3 years of experience in mechanical/structural engineering.
Knowledge of local, state, & federal codes related to low voltage switchboards/switchgear.
Proficiency in AutoCAD and Autodesk Revit.
Experience with Microsoft Office applications.
Ability to interpret construction drawings and equipment specifications.
Understanding of building codes and customer specifications.
Ability to research new designs, technologies, and construction methods for data center facilities.
Creative problem-solving skills to reduce costs without compromising quality or reliability.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Attention to detail.
Leadership and problem-solving skills.
Project management experience.
TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS
15–25% domestic and international travel required.
