Principal Engineer - Elastomeric Mounts

Mercury Marine . This role is part of the Midsection Engineering team and is responsible for the design, development, validation planning and execution, and production release of mechanical components on a marine outboard engine, with emphasis on elastomeric mount components. Essential Functions
Lead outboard isolation system development including elastomeric mount components. Write detailed component design specifications. Challenge existing design practices and develop innovative solutions. Design lightweight and cost-effective components/systems using DFSS discipline. Design cost effective experiments to gather data needed for decision making and design approval. Draft and implement DVP for components with input from cross functional team. Develop patentable ideas that lead to commercial success in the market. Maintain team communication/cooperation with Engineers of mating/adjacent components. Lead/participate in cross-functional teams including Manufacturing, Purchasing, Quality and Suppliers. Work with Design Analysis, Mechanical Development and Engine Testing groups to validate designs. Qualifications
Required Qualifications
BS degree in Mechanical Engineering. 8 or more years’ experience of product development experience, including all aspects of product life cycle from concept development to production release, and production support. Experience designing structural systems/components with the inclusion of component or system level isolation. Strong understanding of FEA and fatigue analysis used in design development. Construct and execute comprehensive DVPs involving coordination of cross functional resources. Aptitude for mechanical designs and system conceptualization. Preferred Qualifications
Good Design-for-Manufacturing (DFM) skills. Familiarity with manufacturing processes including casting and forging, machining, and plastic injection molding. Knowledge of six sigma tools and applications, including root cause failure analysis methods. Experience with use of the FMEA process. Familiarity with CAD and structural analysis software packages – Creo CAD, Creo Mechanism, and Creo Simulate. Experience with Teamcenter or similar PLM software/Change Release Process. Ability to interpret data and independently analyze component failures; and recommend component or system changes. Experience with marine drive systems or boating in general. Compensation and Benefits
The anticipated pay range for this position is
$100,900 - $160,800
annually. The actual base pay offered will vary depending on multiple factors including job-related knowledge/skills, relevant experience, business needs, and geographic location. In addition to base pay, this position is eligible for an annual discretionary bonus program.
