Overview
ASSISTANT BAND DIRECTOR - (HIGH SCHOOL AND JR.HIGH)
— Connally ISD Assist the director with managing the instrumental music and band program at the assigned campus. Provide students with learning activities and experiences designed to support intellectual, emotional, physical, and social growth and opportunities to participate in extracurricular band activities. Help students develop competencies and skills to function successfully in society.
Qualifications
Education/Certification Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university
Valid Texas teaching certificate
Demonstrated competency in the flag, saber, visual body movement, dance, and choreography
Special Knowledge/Skills Knowledge of the overall operation of instrumental music and visual movement program
Knowledge of curriculum and instruction
Knowledge of University Interscholastic League (UIL) rules pertaining to Music
Ability to develop budgets and manage funds
Ability to instruct students and manage their behavior
Ability to interpret data
Strong communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills
Experience Student teaching or approved internship experience
Major Responsibilities and Duties
Instructional Strategies Assist with directing visual performers in the marching band; assist with establishing performance requirements, enforce academic requirements, and verify each student’s eligibility to participate in band; assist band director in providing for band participation at extracurricular events (concerts, football games, pep rallies, parades, UIL); assist with development and implementation of plans that fulfill district curriculum requirements with written evidence of preparation.
Prepare lessons that reflect accommodations for individual student differences; plan and use appropriate instructional strategies, activities, materials, and equipment that reflect understanding of learning styles and needs of students.
Present subject matter according to guidelines established by the Texas Education Agency, board policies, and administrative regulations.
Work cooperatively with special education teachers to modify curricula for special education students (IEP plans).
Work with other staff members to determine instructional goals, objectives, and methods according to district requirements.
Student Growth and Development Assist with ongoing assessments of student achievement through formal and informal testing; be a positive role model for students and support the mission of the school district.
Classroom Management and Organization Create an environment conducive to learning; manage student discipline per Student Code of Conduct and student handbook; supervise students on out-of-town trips and arrange transportation, lodging, and meals; take precautions to protect students, equipment, material, and facilities.
Communication Establish and maintain a professional relationship and open communication with parents, students, colleagues, and community members.
Budget and Inventory Assist with budget development based on program needs; coordinate fundraising; maintain current inventory of fixed assets; oversee cleaning, repairing, and storing instruments and equipment; compile and file required reports and documents.
Professional Growth and Development Participate in staff development activities; attend and participate in faculty meetings and serve on committees as required; comply with applicable laws, UIL rules, and board policy in the band area.
