Collins Aerospace
Overview
Collins Aerospace, an RTX company, is hiring an EMI/TEMPEST Analysis Engineer to support U.S. military and international customers. The role focuses on the entire spectrum of EMI/TEMPEST system analysis and hands‑on test and evaluation.
Responsibilities
Have a strong background in both the EMI standards and circuit design.
Understand that the test environment is critical in designing the protection circuitry.
Read the high‑level system requirements, flow the requirements down to system elements, and analyze the circuit to assess margin with respect to the EMI threat environment.
Qualifications You Must Have
Experience in simulating microwave circuits (including component & PWB parasitics) using Keysight ADS.
Experience to design, simulate, and test RF circuits up to 50 GHz using Keysight ADS as a simulation tool: RF circuits include filters, amplifiers, phase locked loops, mixers, etc.
Experience with the following RF/Microwave building blocks: Amplifier, Analog‑To‑Digital Converter (A/D), Attenuator, Digital‑To‑Analog Converter (D/A), Direct Digital Synthesizer (DDS), Directional Coupler, Frequency Mixer, Lowpass/Bandpass/Highpass Filter, Oscillator, Power Divider, RF Switch, Voltage Controlled Oscillator (VCO), Voltage Reference, Voltage Variable Attenuator.
Understanding of the following RF/Microwave concepts & terminology: dB, dBc, dBi, dBm, Bandwidth, EIRP, G/T, Gain, Gain Compression, Gain Flatness, Intermodulation Products, Isolation, Noise Figure, Phase & Amplitude Settling, Phase Noise, Return Loss, Spurious, Third Order Intercept, and VSWR.
Experience using RF/Microwave test equipment such as a Network Analyzer with calibration kits, Spectrum Analyzer, Signal Generator, RF Power Meter, Oscilloscope.
Occasional domestic and international travel may be required.
Typically requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) and minimum 8 years prior relevant experience or an Advanced Degree in a related field and minimum 5 years of experience.
Qualifications We Prefer
Ability to work with CST Cable Studio and CST expertise.
Comfortable with cable construction details.
Comfortable running circuit simulations with 3D models as well as 3D Field simulations in both time domain and frequency domain.
LTSPICE expertise.
Ability to build simulations with parasitic values based on estimations from schematics.
Ability to relate transient signals from CST simulations to circuit input.
Understanding of Thevenin equivalent sources.
Electromagnetics: Deep understanding of general antenna theory as applied to apertures (waveguides) and cable coupling (monopole antennas) from EMI transients.
General understanding of the implications of Maxwell’s equations and how they describe EMI emissions and coupling.
Circuit design: Expert in low to medium frequency filter design.
Ability to simulate layouts for trace impedance and coupling from nearby traces / wires.
General knowledge of Power Supply circuitry, filters, digital I/O, RF devices – knowledge is applicable in determining limits for transients and appropriate filter implementation for protection against EMI transients.
Familiarity with following Standards: MIL‑STD‑461, MIL‑STD‑464, MIL‑STD‑188‑125, TEMPEST 01‑13, TEMPEST 01‑92.
Benefits
Medical, dental, and vision insurance.
