We are currently seeking experienced
Pipe Welders
to join our team at a local shipyard in Honolulu, HI. This position involves performing high-quality welds on various pipe and structural assemblies aboard vessels and in the shipyard environment. The ideal candidate has advanced proficiency in SMAW, FCAW, and GTAW processes and can weld in all positions, including on fixed 6G pipe setups.
Key Responsibilities
Weld a variety of metal pipe and surfaces using SMAW, FCAW, GTAW, and air arc welding techniques
Fabricate and weld shell plating, cast and forged components, and other structural assemblies per vessel specifications
Weld in flat, vertical, horizontal, and overhead positions (2G, 3G, 4G, and 6G)
Read and interpret blueprints, welding symbols, and job specifications
Use welding equipment safely and efficiently in a shipyard environment
Operate high-reach equipment (boom lifts, scissor lifts, etc.)
Follow all safety guidelines and work in compliance with shipyard regulations
Perform other related tasks as assigned
Required Education and Experience
High school education/equivalent preferred.
Knowledge of shipbuilding processes and procedures preferred.
Must have at least 5 years of journeyman-level pipe welding experience.
Experience with ceramic tape backing.
Must have a valid TWIC card
Must be eligible for DBIDS
Assessment The following hands on assessment will be conducted:
1\. Carbon Steel - FCAW (Flux Core Arc Welding) Welding process in the horizontal, vertical and overhead position (2G, 3G and 4G) 2\. 6G GTAW pipe butt test with CUNI, CRES, and Carbon Steel Overhead and Vertical pipe socket tests with CUNI, CRES, and Carbon Steel All plates will be assessed using the x-ray method.
Unique/Additional Requirements
Must be able to work all shifts and at heights.
Must show at least two years of continuous, stable and verifiable employment.
Construction or manufacturing background preferred and have strong mechanical skills.
Frequent carrying, pushing, pulling, standing, manual dexterity, reaching, seeing, hearing, occasional kneeling, reclining and finger dexterity.
Maintain safety awareness and ability to follow directions.
