Overview

Position: Staff Psychologist, GS-0180, in the Community Living Center, Behavioral Health Team, Mental Health Service, VA North Texas Health Care System, Dallas, TX. Salary range: $99,779 to $184,879 per year. Location: Dallas, TX. Travel: 50% or less (possible). Service: Excepted; Promotion potential: 13. Work schedule: Full-time, Monday – Friday, 8:00 am – 4:30 pm. Relocation incentive and EDRP eligibility may apply. The Educational Debt Reduction Program (EDRP) is available to this position. Eligibility requirements per VHA policy apply and the EDRP application must be submitted within four months of appointment. Program specifics (award amount up to $200,000 and eligibility period of one to five years) are determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services program office after review of the EDRP application. Duties
This is a direct patient care position requiring General Core Psychology privileges. The employee provides assessment and treatment within inpatient medical rehabilitation, palliative care and hospice populations with complex medical, psychological and cognitive factors. Responsibilities include: Conduct brief cognitive/psychological assessments and brief, problem-focused treatments; provide services to patients, families, caregivers, and medical providers. Deliver evidence-based individual, group, or family therapy; integrate behavioral and environmental interventions to promote medical compliance. Consult with multidisciplinary teams; participate in crisis management as needed; ensure timely clinical documentation. Provide suicide risk assessment and safety planning; may assist with crisis coverage for other teams during shortages. Perform duties across the CLC, hospice and palliative care units as needed. Other duties may include extending services to other hospital areas as requested by Service Leadership. Qualifications
Basic requirements : U.S. citizenship; proficiency in English; doctoral degree in psychology from an APA/PCSAS/CPA-accredited program (or acceptable alternatives as outlined); successful completion of APA/CPA-accredited internship or equivalently validated pathway; licensure to practice psychology in the United States (or temporary graduate psychologist appointment if unlicensed, under supervision). Education and internship prerequisites as detailed in the vacancy notice, including various acceptable pathways for doctors of psychology and internship accreditation. Licensure: full, current, unrestricted license to practice psychology; or eligible for temporary graduate psychologist appointment. Grade determinations: GS-11 to GS-13 with specified competencies, KSAs, and experience. Preferred experience includes neuropsychology postdoctoral residency, board eligibility, rehabilitation population experience, crisis intervention and inter-disciplinary teamwork. Disposition and restrictions : Non-competitive status indicators, grandfathering provisions may apply for current VHA employees.
