Boston Public Schools seeks an exceptional
School Nurse
who provides skilled nursing care and manages the special needs of students, including medication administration. The nurse conducts immunization surveillance and routine health screenings annually. Emergency care is provided for students and staff, and students are referred to healthcare providers when necessary. For students with complex needs, the nurse acts as a liaison among the school, home, and medical facilities. As part of the education team, the nurse interprets medical data and develops health plans aligned with students' I.E.P.s. The nurse promotes student wellness and supports a healthy school environment.
Responsibilities
Provides emergency medical care to students.
Administers and supervises prescription medication to students.
Educates students on medical issues in small groups or individually.
Evaluates medical conditions and develops medical summaries for students.
Teaches mini-courses on health topics related to survival skills.
Monitors immunization compliance per BPS and DPH regulations.
Performs vision, hearing, scoliosis, dental, and other health screenings as required.
Maintains contacts with medical providers for services or consultation.
Participates in Service Team Meetings for medical input and interpretation.
Maintains accurate health records and reporting procedures.
Provides staff training and workshops on health topics.
Serves as medical representative in evaluations and re-evaluations, interpreting medical assessments.

Qualifications Required
Bachelor of Science in Nursing
Massachusetts RN license
MA State Dept. of Education School Nurse License (All Levels)
CPR & First Aid Certification
Ability to meet BPS Standards of Effective Practice
Experience with children/adolescents in educational or human services settings
Legal authorization to work in the U.S.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience in school support services, liaison, case management, high-risk youth
Fluency in BPS official languages: Spanish, Creole, Chinese, Vietnamese, Portuguese, Somali
