Overview We’re seeking a highly motivated Manufacturing Engineer with strong mechanical design experience to develop and build high-volume manufacturing lines for Tesla’s Energy team. You’ll design “the machine that builds the machine,” working closely with cross-functional teams to develop, optimize, and deploy advanced manufacturing equipment and processes. You’ll own the full lifecycle of equipment development, from concept through production ramp, ensuring safety, quality, and output for Tesla’s energy products and power electronics. This role requires onsite presence at Megafactory 3 in Brookshire, TX to support pilot and launch efforts; after this phase, the role will transition to the Gigafactory in Austin, TX. Commuter or relocation support available.

What You'll Do

Develop manufacturing equipment, fixtures, and processes to support early-stage prototype builds and scale for high-volume production

Determine and procure necessary equipment for all manufacturing processes, collaborating with integrators to design and manufacture equipment and fixtures

Manage suppliers through specification, design, buyoff, and installation of manufacturing equipment

Characterize, validate, and optimize new equipment and fixtures for seamless production floor integration

Design efficient production workstation layouts to enhance product flow, ergonomics, and efficiency while conducting process analysis, DOE, PFMEA, line balancing, and capacity modeling/simulation

Provide DFM (design for manufacturability) input to improve processes and yield outcomes

Create detailed manufacturing instructions and documentation to train technicians, implement new processes, and ensure smooth handoff to production and sustaining teams

What You'll Bring

5+ years of experience as a hands-on Mechanical/Manufacturing/Design Engineer working on mechanical and/or electromechanical systems

Experience using 2D CAD tools for conceptual line design (AutoCAD) and 3D design for mechanical equipment, fixturing, and tooling (SolidWorks or CATIA)

Experience with conveyance, transducer-based fastening systems (Atlas Copco preferred), robotic systems (Fanuc preferred), adhesive dispensing, laser welding, vision-based inspection, and measurement systems (Keyence preferred) or automated functional testing

Experience with GD&T and system stack up analysis

Experience creating technical specifications for automated manufacturing equipment

Experience providing Design for Manufacturability (DFM) and Automation (DFA)

Degree in Mechanical Engineering, or equivalent experience
