Join to apply for the Trenchless EIT/ Specialist role at HDR. HDR is expanding its national Trenchless Services team. The Trenchless EIT/ Specialist will report to the Trenchless Services Engineering Lead and will support the execution of design and field services for trenchless engineering, design, and construction applications. The role requires travel to field sites to support reconnaissance, oversight of trenchless pipeline installations, and regular communication with team members. The Trenchless EIT/ Specialist will contribute to trenchless programs by supporting engineering and design practices, including hydraulic fracture and inadvertent returns analyses, front-end information collection (e.g., geotechnical investigations and survey coordination), feasibility studies, constructability evaluations, risk management, and data quality control across projects from planning through construction. Responsibilities Perform desktop route selection and evaluate feasibility for the design and construction of trenchless crossings.
Carry out site reconnaissance visits and develop subsurface investigation programs to determine feasibility of trenchless construction methods.
Evaluate surface and subsurface conditions to determine feasibility and preferred construction techniques; interface with discipline leads and production staff to develop trenchless design deliverables.
Communicate regularly with clients regarding project status and technical discussions related to trenchless construction applications.
Estimate quantities of materials, installation loading, and other resources for trenchless pipeline installations.
Assess trenchless technologies (HDPE, microtunneling, HDD, Direct Pipe, etc.) and participate in selecting preferred methods.
Perform calculations for carrier pipe and coating specifications; define workspace requirements for equipment at trenchless crossing locations.
Prepare and review project documentation including design/construction specifications, drawings, reports, and data sets; build knowledge of software models for trenchless design.
Coordinate with project team members outside the Trenchless Team and other company functions on multidisciplinary projects.
Prepare permit application documents and drawings; ensure compliance with applicable industry standards and codes.
Develop and update department standards and procedures; contribute feedback/lessons learned from projects.
Provide field oversight and observation, monitor daily construction activities, identify issues, and provide recommendations; travel is required and may be extensive depending on project needs.
Concur in the definition/updating of standards; perform field engineering and as-built documentation as required.
Preferred Qualifications Engineering in Training (EIT) certification or ability to obtain; C EIT designation; pursuing PE credentials. If EHIT is not attained, title may be Specialist.
Bachelor’s degree in engineering, geology, or related discipline.
Minimum two years of professional experience in consulting/engineering, preferably with HDD, microtunneling, and/or Direct Pipe.
Experience in design and knowledge of trenchless construction methods.
Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills; team-oriented with accountability and reliability.
Strong writing and computer skills, including Microsoft Word and Excel; experience with AutoCAD Civil 3D.
Ability to manage multiple assignments, prioritize tasks, and work autonomously while communicating with a distributed team.
Experience working on projects in remote environments.
Required Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Civil or Structural Engineering.
Engineering in Training (EIT) certificate.
Strong written and verbal communication skills.
