Community Preparedness Educator
in our Emergency Management Division. This position is all about making a difference by helping residents, businesses, schools, and community groups be better prepared for disasters and emergencies. You’ll play a key role in public education, outreach, and volunteer engagement while supporting the City’s Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) program. This is a part-time position with evening and weekend hours for events, presentations, and meetings. This position may be requested to work in the Emergency Operations Center (EOC) for emergencies that extend after hours. You’ll Be Great At Delivering engaging presentations and training on disaster preparedness Developing clear and effective educational materials and outreach content Coordinating drills, training sessions, and community events Supporting and mobilizing CERT volunteers Communicating professionally with staff, partners, and the public Managing multiple priorities and adapting to changing situations Requirements: Any combination of education and training demonstrating the ability to effectively and successfully perform the duties of the position is considered qualifying. A typical combination is as follows: Education: Graduation from a recognized four-year college or university program with major work in emergency management, homeland security, public administration, political science, communications, or related field. Additional qualifying experience may be substituted for a portion of the required education. Experience: At least two years of experience in emergency management or disaster preparedness role is preferred. License/Certificate Requirements: Due to the performance of some field duties, which may require the operation of a personal or City vehicle, a valid California Driver’s license and acceptable driving record are required. FEMA certifications: ICS 100 and 700 is required within 6 months of appointment CalOES certification: G606 is required within 6 months of appointment CERT Basic Course is required within 6 months of appointment Preferred Certificates: CERT Train-the-Trainer; CERT Program Manager Application/Selection Process:
All interested applicants must submit a completed online city application. Applications will be accepted on a continuous basis, with the first review on October 15, 2025. Selected applicants will be interviewed, and the appointing authority will review the job-related qualifications of those deemed eligible for hire before making selection decisions. Pre-placement Process:
