Functional Safety Engineer (contract) at Capgemini We are seeking a Functional Safety Engineer to ensure the safety and reliability of autonomous robotic vehicles. This role involves identifying hazards and risks using Systems Theoretic Process Analysis (STPA), defining safety requirements, and implementing risk-reduction measures throughout the product development lifecycle. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate safety into the design, development, verification, and validation of our technologies while adhering to relevant industry standards and regulatory frameworks. Responsibilities

Promote a strong culture of safety and compliance across engineering and product teams. Contribute to the development and maintenance of functional safety concepts, requirements, and safety goals for autonomous vehicle control systems. Apply safety analysis techniques such as STPA, FMEA, and FTA. Work closely with hardware, software, and systems engineers to ensure safety requirements are appropriately allocated, implemented, and verified. Support verification and validation activities, including safety testing, simulations, and safety case reviews. Ensure adherence to internal safety processes based on ISO 25119, ISO 13849, and IEC 61508 standards. Develop and maintain safety documentation such as safety plans, hazard analyses, safety cases, and audit reports. Participate in internal and external safety audits and assessments. Provide technical input and guidance to project teams on safety processes and best practices. Stay current on advancements in functional safety methodologies and autonomous vehicle systems. Mandatory Skills and Qualifications

Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Mechatronics, or Systems Engineering (or a related discipline). 4–5 years of experience in functional safety engineering, preferably in robotics, automotive, off-road, mining, or agricultural machinery. Demonstrated experience conducting STPA, FMEA, and FTA. Strong understanding of functional safety lifecycles, safety integrity levels (SIL/PL), and risk assessment processes. Working knowledge of functional safety standards (ISO 25119, ISO 13849, IEC 61508, ISO 26262, etc.). Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills to address complex safety and compliance issues. Strong documentation and organizational abilities, including preparation of safety records and compliance reports. Effective communication and collaboration skills with cross-functional and multidisciplinary teams. Optional / Nice-to-Have Skills

Experience with autonomous systems, robotics, or mobile machinery safety applications. Exposure to software safety assurance or embedded system development. Familiarity with model-based safety analysis tools or simulation environments (e.g., MATLAB/Simulink, Medini, ANSYS). Knowledge of cybersecurity-safety interactions and integrated risk management. Certification or training in functional safety (e.g., TÜV Functional Safety Engineer). Ability to lead or mentor junior engineers on safety-related projects. Compensation and Benefits

Pay range: $39.86/hour - $62.29/hour. Benefits include medical, dental, vision, and retirement benefits. Applications will be accepted on an ongoing basis.
