Senior Electrical Engineer - Power Generation
In the role of Senior Electrical Engineer - Power Generation, HDR is seeking an experienced professional to lead power generation design projects in the utility scale power and renewable energy industry. This role may include supporting in a traditional Owner’s Engineering capacity.
Responsibilities
Have experience within the utility scale power and renewable energy industry and be capable of leading teams for power generation design projects including supporting in a traditional Owner’s Engineering role.
Have extensive experience in power generation and distribution, renewable energy, protection and motor control design, power system studies, construction and equipment specification development, and balance of plant designs such as raceway, lighting, and grounding systems.
Interest and experience in renewables and battery energy storage systems (BESS) is very desired.
Mentor junior engineers, manage client relationships, and lead marketing activities including proposal technical writing, fee builds, and work breakdown structure development in response to requests for proposals.
A significant level of design and engineer of record work experience with power plant systems is required.
Perform other duties as needed.
Preferred Qualifications
Master's degree in Electrical Engineering or Control Systems Engineering with an Electrical Power emphasis
Professional Engineer (P.E.) license in Texas or ability to obtain reciprocity
15+ years’ experience in electrical power generation and renewable energy design
Field experience, including startup and commissioning
Experience in renewable energy (PV, BESS, etc.) and DER or “microgrid” projects is highly desired
Previous experience with an engineering power consulting firm desired
Willingness to grow into a team lead or section manager role
Strong leadership skills with the ability to work independently, as a lead on a multi-discipline consulting team, or as a lead on a small team
Extensive knowledge of three-phase electrical power, protection and control design and settings development, system grounding, and related design activities
Instrumentation and Controls experience particularly with DCS and PLC systems is a plus
Ability to work with Project Manager and Project Controller on project reviews with management as needed
Direct the activities of other engineering professionals and mentor staff as needed
An attitude and commitment to being an active participant of our employee-owned culture
Travel is expected to be less than 10% for meetings with clients and vendors and project site visits
Required Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Engineering
Minimum of 10 years of experience
Professional engineering license recognized by the licensing board for the location of the position offered
Extensive experience in project execution within the Power Market Sector
Proficient computer skills in Microsoft Office and standard Power Market Sector design software (examples include PLS CAD, AutoCAD, Plant 3D, AutoPipe, and Revit)
