Job Summary Provides empathetic pharmacy consulting services to patients regarding the effective use of medications and drug interaction awareness. Offers preventive and clinical healthcare services, including immunizations, diagnostic testing, and patient outcome services. Ensures prescribed medications are compounded, reviewed, dispensed, and verified accurately according to regulatory guidelines. Manages pharmacy workflow and improves pharmacy financials, inventory, and patient experience. Manages pharmacy staff performance and engagement. Ensures professional development of pharmacy staff by overseeing training and performance management initiatives.
Patient Experience
Engages patients by greeting and offering assistance. Resolves issues timely and answers questions to ensure a positive experience.
Models customer service best practices with all team members to deliver a distinctive, joyful experience, including courtesy, empathy, and Walgreens service traits.
Connects with patients by anticipating needs and proactively offering services to promote the shift from transactional to interpersonal pharmacy services.
Participates in community events as requested by Store Manager, Healthcare Supervisor, or District Manager.
Operations
Counsels patients about medication usage, side effects, interactions, and alternatives.
Performs pharmacist tasks including compounding, drug therapy reviews, verification, and medication management.
Ensures accurate dispensing and compliance with regulations and company policies.
Manages pharmacy operations, scheduling, role assignments, and team collaboration.
Maintains Good Faith Dispensing policy and ensures controlled substance compliance.
Collaborates with Store Manager on new strategic business opportunities.
Uses pharmacy systems for workflow, prescription fulfillment, billing, and inventory management.
Processes insurance claims accurately and resolves related issues.
Coordinates with medical providers for medication clarifications and audits.
Provides clinical and wellness services: immunizations, diagnostic testing, disease state management.
Partners with centralized support for patient registration and exception resolution.
Maintains pharmacy area cleanliness and equipment upkeep.
Prepares and submits required records and reports to comply with laws.
People & Performance Management
Collaborates with Store Manager on pharmacy staff hiring, discipline, and compliance with employment laws.
Establishes expectations, promotes teamwork, and recognizes staff improvements via rewards.
Manages pharmacy staff training and conducts formal performance reviews.
Identifies high-potential team members and facilitates career progression.
Maintains employee morale and addresses conflicts.
Training & Personal Development
Maintains required licensing, credentialing, and certification per regulations.
Continuously enhances pharmacy and healthcare knowledge through journals and Walgreens resources.
Completes education credits and training modules.
Seeks professional development by soliciting feedback and leveraging mentors.
Communications
Supports Store Manager by communicating corporate health and wellness information to pharmacy staff.
Business Performance Management
Analyzes performance data including pharmacy financials, customer service, and inventory.
Manages asset protection activities and oversees inventory management.
Identifies performance trends and opportunities for improvement.
Business Planning
Builds relationships with local medical community providers to promote pharmacy business and growth opportunities.
Supports Store Manager in expanding health and wellness awareness in the community.
Basic Qualifications
BS in Pharmacy or Pharm D Degree from an accredited institution.
Current pharmacist licensure in the states within district.
Certified Immunizer or willing to become an immunizer within 90 days of hire.
At least 1 year pharmacy experience including prescription filling, recordkeeping, compliance, operations, software, and insurance billing.
Experience with prescription dispensing activities demonstrating knowledge of controlled substance laws.
Average leadership rating of at least 3.0 on the last performance review and no written disciplinary actions in last 12 months (Internal candidates only).
Preferred Qualifications
Supervisory experience planning, organizing, directing pharmacy staff.
At least 6 months pharmacy experience with Walgreen Co.
Average leadership rating of 3.7 or above on last performance review (Internal candidates only).
