Park Worker 3 - Sojourner Truth State Park
Base pay range $42,641.00/yr - $52,413.00/yr
Under the general direction of higher‑level staff at Sojourner Truth State Park in the Palisades region of OPRHP, the incumbent will perform maintenance and upkeep of the park in addition to park office duties. This position may also require traveling to work in other parks within Ulster County.
Duties Description
Answer telephones, file, monitor the park radio communications, provide information to visitors, write letters, and prepare other documents for internal and external communications.
Provide primary office supervision in absence of park supervisor, including revenue collection and preparation of bank deposits.
Prepare daily/weekly attendance and revenue reports, track expenditure records in the Budget Expenditure Tracking System (BETS), perform payroll duties, handle purchase reconciliation in the Statewide Financial System (SFS) and Asset Cloud, maintain the Emergency Action Plan (EAP), and issue park permits such as bus permits and special event permits.
Conduct audits, prepare employee paperwork, and train and supervise cashiers, revenue, and office staff.
Prepare and submit all required seasonal hiring paperwork for HR; manage local personnel files.
Order and maintain office supplies.
Assign, supervise, review, train, and evaluate the work of lower‑level employees.
Perform general maintenance duties as needed such as landscaping, snow removal, and traffic direction.
Assist in emergency situations by applying emergency procedures and practices, assisting and directing staff, and working with patrons to minimize potential issues.
Communicate effectively with other staff and park patrons in a responsible and courteous manner.
The candidate will perform other assigned duties as appropriate.
Minimum Qualifications
One year of experience* in the operation and / or maintenance of a park, historic site, golf course, or recreational facility. In addition to operations and maintenance, the following types of experience are also qualifying: law enforcement or security, firefighting, environmental education, environmental stewardship, natural resource management, forest management, wildlife management or preservation, or historic preservation or interpretation; OR
One year of military service in any of the military branches; OR
An Associate’s or higher-level degree, or 60 credit hours of college level coursework; OR
Completion of an appropriate two-year technical / trades school program or two years' experience as a trades assistant under the supervision of a skilled tradesperson.
If verifiable, we will accept and prorate part‑time and volunteer experience.
Additional Comments
Must be available to work weekends, holidays, as well as some evenings and overtime as needed.
Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license that allows the candidate to legally operate a motor vehicle in New York State as a term and condition of employment.
Must be physically able to perform medium physical labor.
