Park Manager 2 (NY HELPS) New York State Parks, Recreation & Historic Preservation

Pay Range $78,126.00/yr – $99,056.00/yr

Responsibilities

Identify community recreational needs and work with community, school groups, and local government officials to develop and implement programs, schedules, and special events.

Assign, schedule, supervise, and evaluate contractors and subordinate personnel delivering programs.

Inspect, evaluate, and assure the readiness and availability of equipment and facilities for scheduled activities.

Supervise recreation, trades, park workers, and administrative staff; participate in recruitment and training programs.

Inspect cleaning and maintenance work; develop and implement cleaning and maintenance schedules.

Prepare, update, and execute a comprehensive plan of preventative maintenance, repair, and grounds care for Roberto Clemente State Park.

Coordinate maintenance work to minimize adverse impacts on customer services.

Plan major repairs and preventive projects with the Physical Plant Manager.

Work with higher-level management and regional facilities staff to address maintenance and repair priorities promptly while minimizing disruption to park operations.

Assist higher-level managers to plan and budget for equipment, repairs, and supplies needed to support programming and events.

Order needed supplies and materials with Park Admin approval.

Make policy and facility improvement recommendations to enhance customer experience and satisfaction.

Ensure all Agency, Regional, and Park standards for service delivery, customer service, and employee conduct are consistently met.

Evaluate park facilities for energy conservation and sustainable operations.

Set standards and assign tasks based on daily operational needs of the park.

Work closely with volunteers, community, and vendors to ensure NYS Parks’ mission is met.

Perform other related duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Qualifications Open Competitive Qualifications

Seven years of experience in a park, recreational facility, or campus, including two years of managerial experience; OR

Bachelor’s or higher degree in a relevant field (e.g., environmental education, park management, recreation management) AND three years of experience in a park setting with two years of managerial experience.

A park or recreational facility must include at least three of the following: athletic facilities, skating rink, campgrounds, golf courses, hiking trails, historic structures, marinas, picnic areas, playgrounds, recreation programs, swimming facilities, or environmental/interpretive programming.

Managerial experience must cover at least three of the following functional areas: administration, environmental education/interpretation, maintenance, planning, programming, or visitor services.

Additional qualifications include valid driver’s license, 40‑hour work week with weekend/holiday/evening availability, excellent communication skills, proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook), and bilingual candidates are encouraged. May be required to support operations at other parks and emergency management tasks.

Operating Needs & Additional Comments

Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license for New York State.

This position is 40 hours per week; weekend, holiday, and evening work is required.

Must be well organized and possess excellent communication skills.

Proficiency in Microsoft Office is required.

May be required to support other parks and emergency management tasks.

Bilingual candidates are encouraged.

Downstate adjustment: $4,000.
